I reduced feeds when I started working again and definitely felt a dip in my moods. Had about 2 weeks of crying then a week later started my first period (on Christmas Day too which was a huge pain) and back feeling more normal now
There is a name for it but I can’t quite remember what it’s called. My period came around 3 months postpartum and every time baby latched I felt a sudden drop in my mood, it was like my brain was in a deep pit of nothingness, just completely low. Sometimes I would cry sometimes I would just zone out. It would only last a few minutes while that first bit if milk came out but when I spoke to my HV she said it’s because of the rush of prolactin to the breast as well as your dopamine dropping to help production of the milk it is completely normal and can last longer for some people. Just keep an eye on how long it last and seek advise if needed xx
It’s called DEMR- Dysphoric Milk Ejection Reflex x
Thanks all! Out of interest, what did you all reduce feeds to? I’m trying to limit to 2-3x p/d and I’m thinking that’s why my mood has taken a hit. Reassuring to hear it came and went quite quickly, hoping there’s not another when when I fully stop
It’s called weaning blues https://www.thebreastfeedingmentor.com/post/weaning-blues-what-are-they-how-long-do-they-last
Yes, when I was reducing feeds to get ready for nursery I felt weepy for a couple of weeks while the milk adjusted. I’m not sure exactly how long it lasted it was just before Xmas, I feel completely fine now (and have for a few weeks).
