Sterilising - help please!

I think I’m still confused with sterilising and would be so grateful for any advice on two things!! 1. if I sterilise a bottle but don’t use it within the 24 hours do I need to sterilise it again? I have an electric steamer one and don’t want to risk doing anything wrong. 2. Do I need to dry the bottles/pump before using them? It seems counter productive to wipe them but it takes so long to air dry? 3. Are we sterilising pumps after every use?? Thanks so much everyone!!

No you don’t need to sterilise them again before the 24 hours and no you don’t have to dry them either x

@Anneliese thanks for the reply! So if it goes over 24 hours do I then need to? X

If it goes over 24hours then the recommendation is to sterilise again. For your other question I’m not 100% as I don’t use an electric steamer, however my assumption is no you can’t wipe them as then they’ll no longer be sterile. With the cold water steriliser you can use them when they come out and are still wet. I don’t like to because they smell so clinical so try to leave drip dry on a tray if I can.

Bottles, yes they need to be sterilised again if not used within 24 hours. No wiping needed, just shake any water off. Pumps. They can be sterilised once every 24 hours. In between use the “fridge method”. You rinse the pump parts under the tap and just place all the parts in the fridge in a sealed bag or Tupperware box between uses. Then once every 24 hours wash with hot soapy water and sterilise. (It’s best to buy an inexpensive thermometer and make sure your fridge is below 5c though to ensure it’s a safe temp to store them and don’t overcrowd your fridge with food.)

Over 24 hours, yes, re-sterilise, no need to dry or wipe. As above, fridge method for pump BUT do not rinse in water! Just bag and put in the fridge x

@Hannah oh really? Do you know why that is? I was told to rinse all parts first

@Rebecca because tap water isn't sterile. You could maybe rinse with boiling water or Milton water but the point of putting it in the fridge is to restrict bacteria growing anyway
