Nipple sizes

Hello, My 2.5 month old is using the level 1 nipples on the bottles. How do you know when to change nipple sizes? Sometimes there’s spillage with the Tommie Tippie level 1 nipple and there’s rarely any with the Philips Advent Level 1 but I feel like he’s working hard to suck out of the Philips Advent. Thanks!

Following too! We aren’t sure but I know our next level nipples say 3 months and our boy is 3 months so we’re just gonna give it a shot I think and see how it goes. 🤷🏻‍♀️

My daughter is on the Philips avent natural bottles and she’s on a size 3 which is the nipple that comes with the 9oz bottles

I realized it was time to switch nipple flows when she wasn’t finishing bottles, falling asleep while feeding, waking up constantly to feed taking extremely long to finish a bottle she also just became an overall more fussy baby she is now two months old on a flow 2 for the Phillips Avent. Also, I tried to switch to a size 2 too early and she literally would fill her mouth with milk not swallow and spit it out because it was coming out too fast she didn’t have time to swallow so i would say if you think your babies ready try it it doesn’t work go back no harm done! Babies do have to work harder for the advent bottles the mimic breastfeeding and if babies not actively sucking nothing will come out where as other bottle brands doesnt matter if there sucking or not the milk will still flow out (i hope this is a little helpful😂🫶🏼)

Following as well!

@Kamari 💛 yes same! But my LO gets fussy at times and just prefers to sleep than eat.

We still use the newborn nipple with our 10 month old (she’s adopted and has always been mostly bottle fed). And with our 3 year old (he nursed more than bottles) he used the newborn nipple until a year when we stopped doing bottles with him. Our lactation consultant has told us there’s no reason to ever size up. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m sure it’s necessary for certain babies but this is what worked for us. I guess the point of my answer is more that you don’t HAVE TO size up if the one you are using is working fine.

My baby has been using size 3 of the Avent nipples since he was about 3 weeks old. He was taking forever to finish a bottle with level 1 and 2.

I work with a lactation consultant, and my three month old is still using super slow and preemie. He’s 14 pounds. Idk if that’s because we nurse and bottle feed tho

@Laura you may need to size up this was along withe her taking too long to finish a bottle is how I knew my first needed to go up in size

I’ve used size 2 nipple on the Phillips advent bottle since my baby was born. I’d def size up if I were you. My baby is almost 3 months now and level 2 is still going well for us for now.
