Nursery and the inevitable sniffles

Just to share that my girl has started nursery full time now just this week, has come back with sniffles and sneezes yesterday. The fact that it isn’t her first time being poorly has strengthened me mentally as I know what to do. So for anyone who’s experiencing this for the first time and wondering what to do, I recommend: 1. Saline (spray or drops) - I use sprays for her nose whenever necessary. This loosens stuffiness and encourages her to sneeze and clears her nose. Recent studies show that babies who use saline tend to not be as sick for as long as those who don’t. 2. Bulb aspirator - to suck any loose mucus from nose. A lot of people say the Frida Snotsucker works wonders, but the cheapy bulb aspirators work too. 3. Steam - have baby in the room when filling their tub for baths. My girl loves baths to begin (with so this helps) but she’s super chilled in the bath and doesn’t really get any sneezy moments when she’s in them and it’s all down to the steam and warmth really helps keep her comfortable. 4. Vapour rub - old school stuff, I put this on her clothes instead of directly on her chest. If she gets coughs as well, I rub some on the soles of her feet and pop socks on (I don’t know the science behind this but my mum did it for me when I was little so that’s what my girl will have too :) Some might recommend the Calpol vapour plug-in — put it on for an hour then switch it off, not have it on all night like I did (in mine and my husband’s defence, the box said not to exceed 16 hours and we didn’t — but it will be overwhelming and drive you from the room 😂) 5. Calpol / paracetamol - it’ll give baby better sleep (this is relative of course, whatever better sleep may mean to you) 6. Inclined mattress - keeps baby from getting blocked up while asleep. Or if you’re as disciplined as I am, cosleep. Hope this helps! Do pop your recommendations below, too, with whatever worked for your babies x

I do exactly all this . Calpol plug in is so expensive I used it twice and I started using a humidifier with oilbas oil to help xx

My daughter has had a good few colds/flu now (thanks to my husband who is a teaching assistant in a comprehensive school 🤣 but this post is super useful anyway! I was looking at the calpol plug-in so thank you for that advice haha xx

I little hack for calpol plug in is that instead of buying refills, you can use put Olbas oil on the refills pad. Saves you ££££

Quick question - how is everyone successfully getting the saline spray into their babies noses? Mine constantly moves her head away! Limited success so far

@Helen dad holds his head but we have to be extra careful so we don’t break his neck😂😂😂
