Vaccines

Should expecting fathers get vaccines to be near their newborn? I know as mothers it’s helpful for us to get them since we can help the baby build their immune systems but my baby daddy is from another country so he doesn’t feel comfortable getting vaccinated especially with his allergies, but I just wasn’t sure if him not being vaccinated could be of any risk to the baby

Flu and COVID for sure can be risk to the baby. The TDAP might not be a bad idea either. I'd just consult your OB or whoever you are using as a pediatrician.

I feel same way that your husband

I told my husband if he didn’t get vaccinated he wouldn’t go near our kid.. no risking our kids health and safety

@Cyan Rankin lol I feel like if I did that he would make me do things on my own until I asked for help just to be stubborn

I would just lay out the statistics of vaccines for adults who have infants. My family members and friends also got vaccinated because of my concerns about our babies health

Absolutely any adult frequently near a newborn needs TDAP at minimum, flu and Covid as well ideally. All of the grandparents had to be up to date on TDAP with our first, and it's good for 10 years (moms need it each pregnancy though). Older people can get the RSV vaccine now too, which can be super dangerous for babies. My niece was hospitalized with it more than once, it's scary.
