Breastfeeding Pain

Anyone else experience excruciating pain on latching baby? No tongue tie and been told latch is right. I physically couldn’t put baby on the boob this morning and had to give expressed milk because I ended up so upset just at the thought of latching. I fear that I might have to give up on breastfeeding 😭

Yes, I dread the feed! I had a breastfeeding specialist come out to see us for some support and she was great but my nipples are still sooo sore!! I keep getting told the pain eases and our nipples will toughen up but I’m also thinking I may need to give up 😢

I’ve also had the same. I’m combi feeding for this reason I got myself in a mess early on. I some times struggle every now and then still. I brought a pump so when they get too sore for her to feed off I can pump and give it her in a bottle. I feel like no one ever speaks about the rollercoaster of a journey it is breastfeeding. 🥺

Have you got damaged/cracked nipples? Because if you have and keep latching then it’ll just keep hurting. Could you try using some nipple shields temporarily until your nipples have healed? Don’t give up you’ve got this and it won’t last forever!!💪🏽🩷

This was me a few weeks ago. All I can say is keep persisting and I promise it will ease. I now really enjoy breastfeeding and find it an amazing bonding time with my little girl. However, I used to find it toe curling and would dread every feed and sometimes be feeding in tears. I used loads of lanisoh nipple cream, applied it after every feed and sometimes more in between. Really hope it starts to ease for you soon 🫶🏼

Have you tried silver nipple cups? My nipples were blistered and bleeding and I started using silver cups in between every feed with some lanolin and they literally healed in a day. I got the koala silver nipple cups from Amazon. Little expensive but honestly a life saver x

I second @Izzy try some silver nipple cups. Theyre not cheap but they're really good! I would ensure that her latch is good though as I wouldn't think it should cause that much pain 😞. We were told by the midwives that her latch was good but when we saw the lactation team at the hospital they told me we'd been told wrong

Either try silver cups or nipple shields. My baby girl is 8 weeks and we have been using Medela nipple shields since the beginning. She was born prematurely and struggled to latch because she had a tongue tie and my nipples are quite flat . Didn’t have issues with my first son but she just struggled . So 8 weeks in now , still using shields. Definitely don’t give up yet mama x try the shields
