Birthing partner

My partner just asked when do we need to tell the midwife who the birthing partner is. I presume we don’t need to tell them a name by a certain date and they just ask at the appointment if I’m having a birthing partner in general? Or do they not even ask?

Assuming you’re in UK? You don’t necessarily need to tell them, but they may ask or it will come up in conversation. It’s not like an official thing and you can have more than one person on the team too. It’s more something you decide personally so that you feel prepared. Writing a birthing plan is a great idea and this is where you would state who you want to be present and what roles you’d like them to play (along with any environmental/medical preferences you have). But your midwife won’t necessarily even want to see this before the day unless you want to talk it through with them 🧡

Yes, based in the UK. Thanks so much! This is really helpful xx

I think you can have max 2 in the UK and i think it’s just whoever comes with you on the day I don’t think they need to know ahead of time

I think close to my due date my midwife asked for who I’m expecting to be with me, she took names and their relationship to me

I don't think I ever told my midwife tbh
