Constipation

My baby is 7 weeks old and she poops every 4 days (that’s her normal). Since her 3rd day of life it’s been like that. Pediatrician knows about it of course and he even tried inserting his finger in her butthole with gloves and some Vaseline to see if it would help. Her belly never got swollen or hard and she farts a lot. She doesn’t have colic or pain. But, today is the 10th day she hasn’t pooped. The last time was on December 31. She takes probiotics but I don’t think it’s helping. What could be the cause of it? Any of your babies has been constipated like this? Have you tried to put a suppository? I am almost buying one. Idk what to do. I even do bicycle exercises with her and give her warm baths. I see she has been trying to poop, she kinda cries and get tensed up but she just farts instead. When I breastfeed her she farts too. She is EBF. Any advice is appreciated! Thank you!

Hi, please don’t buy a suppository! When she poops is it rock solid? If so that’s constipation, if not then it’s normal. My boy used to go once a week up until he started solids. Breast milk has very little waste, it’s easily digested so as long as you are getting wet nappies it’s nothing to worry about (this is what doctors told me). If you are still concerned go back to your GP or health visitor, but don’t take matters into your own hands.

My little guy is the same. He is exclusively breastfed and the pediatrician told me it's normal due to "complete absorption" of breast milk. As long as when she does poop, it's not hard and belly is not distended/painful

My son is also EBF and can go a day or two with no poops. That said, he actually can get pretty gassy and shows signs of discomfort. When that happens, I give him .5oz of pure apple juice diluted with .5oz of purified water, limited to once a day PRN. It has helped him significantly! I no longer worry about if he poops every day - as long as I know he’s comfortable. Good luck mama
