Potty training

My daughter is 2,5 yo and she knows that she needs to use a potty but she wouldn’t! She always says no to it. Today I just took her nappies away and it’s been really hard, we went through a lot of shorts and leggings. She doesn’t like being wet but wouldn’t go on a potty! Any successful stories of potty training??

My daughter is also 2.5 years old and refuses the potty, but she will go if I put her on the toilet as she said she wants to be a ‘big girl’ so that really helped

Nothing from waist down just while in house. I've established the potty with my son he knows to go on it but he refuses to wear pants that's my next stage 😭 but he wears a nappy when we go out he doesn't know to tell us when he needs the toilet yet

My daughter is 2,8 years old and i tried during the summer and she just wasn’t ready! but i tried again last week and on the 5th day she finally got it and started taking herself to the toilet! The main thing is to just be consistent and don’t give in! She will get it eventually don’t give up xxx

@Tayla I tried with mine in the summer and she just wasn’t ready either. Thinking of trying again soon as she’s been asking after her potty. Fingers crossed this time will be a lot more successful than last time! X

We have been potty training for 3 weeks tomorrow, it’s a rollercoaster and like every development etc every child is different. We’ve maybe had 1 day without accidents? He’s gone back to nursery and had 8 accidents but the following day at home only had 1! This is our 2nd time doing it, you’ve got this!

My boy is the same. We tried with the toilet as didn’t want to use a potty but he was so against it but he liked a peppa pig potty I’m smyths so we bought it. He refused to sit on it once we got home so I sat myself down on it and he screamed that it was his potty and now sits on it 😂. He still hasn’t peed in it though x

@Steph Defo try it! she might pick it up so much quicker this time! I use a sticker chart and give her little snacks she loves when she does one in the potty! She enjoys it now😂 xxx

@Rhiannon This is what i’m struggling with!! My daughter will be absolutely fine with nothing on from waist down, she’ll take herself to the potty but as soon as she is wearing knickers or trousers she will have accidents😭😭 i don’t know what to do🤦🏼‍♀️ x

@Tayla my son won't have any accidents in them at all he will wear them for 5 minutes says he needs a wee wee ill help him pull them down and then he sits on the potty for a split second and runs away, I ask him to put them back on and he says no

@Rhiannon oh dear 😂🤦🏼‍♀️ it’s such hard work potty training, it ain’t for the weak loool

My daughter just decided she wanted to use the toilet. We had tried potty training once before but it didn’t work because she didn’t tell Us when she needed to go. Then one day she just said she wanted to do a big girl wee on the toilet. Absolutely refuses to use the potty but loves her special toilet seat and step. She was just over 2 1/2, it’s been a month and we’ve only had 4 accidents in total. She tells us when she needs to go and it’s brilliant now that her sister has arrived (I was terrified at the thought of having to change two sets of nappies). So for us waiting till she was fully ready really helped.

I feel your pain! I’ve been trying to potty train my daughter this weekend and it is just not happening! We’re on day 2 of the bare bum method and it’s getting worse! She’s hysterical when I try to sit her on the potty. She knows she wants to go, but won’t tell us until she’s already wet herself. I don’t want to give up but I feel like forcing her is just going to traumatise her! 🫠 It feels like it’s not going to happen any time soon.

We tried in July and it was traumatic 😬 I was nervous to try again but had no plans after Christmas so we went for it and my little boy has been brill. There was a lot of no to begin with but I think it was because I was asking too much so I cut down my asking and eventually he started telling me. We are 3 weeks in, no accidents in about 2 weeks and I don't ask any more, he tells me 👍 it definitely took patience and perseverance. We have a Carry Potty and I got him excited about using it by putting stickers on the front. He loves Hulk and the potty is green so we got hulk stickers and talked about hulk not wearing nappys so he is like hulk now. Is there anything your little girl is interested in that you could use? If you are using a reward chart, maybe the potty gets a sticker too?

My daughter did this on the first day (we went cold turkey on nappies), she seemed almost scared of it. The next day I got lots of stickers and crafty bits and decorated her potty and she has loved it ever since!

My daughter is also 2.5, she’s been fully out of nappies since the week before her second birthday, shes even out of nappies at bed time too now, best thing I found was just leaving her naked from the waist down and staying at home with her for a few days if she had an accident I was just ask her where are we meant to do that and she would say on the potty, also encouraging her to go and sit in the potty every half an hour, i then made a big fuss of her when she eventually did it on the potty xx

@Molly May Sorrell I don't know how people are doing it so good with their little ones, my son hasn't worn a nappy just while at home during the day since November and he won't wear pants! 😭 I try and try still wears a nappy to bed and still wears a nappy when we go out, like even when we are out I try to encourage him to go to the toilet but when I put him on it the other day he screamed

@Rhiannon it didn’t click straight away with my boy. It does feel like you’re the only one who if doesn’t click for at the beginning. My little boy is 3 weeks and only just wearing pants and the last two days no accidents. We made went over the top with the pants, he chose them, everytime he puts them on we cheer and say how grown up he is etc

@Rhiannon every child is different, my daughter was a late walker and I used to feel I was doing something wrong as other peoples children were doing things before her but they all learn things they’re own way in there own time so try not worry too much he will do it when he’s ready xx
