Who pays? Birthday.

You are the birthday person and you organised a lunch/dinner out with your friends. It’s also a set menu for X amount per head not including drinks. The bill comes so do you pay for everyone or should the whole group split the bill? I’m interested to know everyone’s thoughts.

Never heard of the birthday person paying! Doesn’t matter if they are the one who coordinated it and wanted to do it. It’s their birthday so it shouldn’t be on them to pay for everyone

personally i’ve always paid if im going out with friends as im the one who invited them and i always feel awkward incase of confusion and someone wasn’t expecting to pay 😭 that being said i’ve not had more than two friends at a bday meal so it’s not ridiculously expensive but if i were to have more i’d definitely be more inclined to split the bill but id still pay my share x

Anytime I’ve ever been everyone splits the bill and usually incorporates the birthday persons into everyone’s so they don’t pay at all

I don’t think it should be assumed the group will cover the birthday person (ok if co-ordinated by a third person prior, or if you ask for no gifts, but please contribute $x/y to birthday girl’s meal) then people can decide before they accept the invite. Or, I think it’s a nice gift for one person to offer to pay for the birthday girl (which I’ve done).

If anything, you as the birthday person shouldn't have to pay for anything & your friends should split your amount between them as well.

You organized it, so you pay

I go to lots of bdays and have bday dinners myself and we always split and exclude the bday girl so her meal is “free”. So if there’s 6 of us the Bill is split into 5 and we pay that amount- ours plus a lil extra from each to cover the bday girl.

With a set price, I'd expect whoever invited to pay if everyone didn't agree beforehand or at the most everyone to pay for themselves. If we all just went out and order what we want, we'd all just cover the birthday person's bill.

Everyone pay for themselves - birthday person included
