Military moving

We are getting stationed in Italy. This is the first time I’ve ever moved in my whole life. We are not bringing everything, I was told that movers would come and pack up all of our stuff. What does that look like? How should I prep? What are some things you wish you knew then that you know now? My husband is in school across the country. So I will be doing everything myself.

We do DITY MOVES but just record most of everything like your valuables and pack anything you plan to take as luggage, like while you're at a hotel for a little bit until your house is situated (if needed), valuables you want to carry jewelry, important documents, if you have small children what they need at least for a few days, toiletries. But the movers literally do pack everything from what some of our friends have told us!

Congrats on Italy though! That's exciting 🥰

I would pack all of your fragiles before they get there. Label everything and document everything.

Separate the things you don't want the movers to pack from the things you want them to pack. Be sure to keep essential paperwork/documents, about a weeks' worth of clothes and any coats you may need for the weather for the first 3ish months you're there before your stuff gets delivered. Look into your baggage allowance for the plane ride and use all that space to take essentials for 3-4 months of living before your stuff is delivered

@Charlotte do they come in and box up everything in one day?

@Kelly Depends on how much stuff you have. Usually it's a day or 2 to pack then they come back another day to load. I've never done an OCONUS move, so I don't know all the logistics
