Fussy at the boob

Guys my girl started to be really fussy at the boob, not upset but she comes off about every other minute and I feel like she's not getting much milk because of it. She can come off literally in the middle of a let down or just before one and milk goes everywhere but her mouth. Sometimes she pulls in the nipple and arches her back too making me think that here isn't enough milk but then I relatch her and see milk squiring out 🤨??? Anyone else's little one acting like this? What is it caused by?

i’ve had this happening too, i don’t know why but i’ve found that putting a muslin over him, not like over his whole head but over his eyes has made him less fussy and just carry on drinking instead of pulling himself off every 10 seconds.

@Hannah do you think it's a sensory thing then? She does get very distracted tbf... I feel like I spent all her feeds today endlessly relatching her 🫠

I’m not breastfeeding but I’ve found that now baby is becoming more aware of his surroundings he gets extremely distracted trying to look around at his surroundings and it’s impossible trying to get him to stay on the bottle🙃

Might sound silly but are you due on? A friend of mines baby did that and then she came on .. x

@Julia i feel like they just see better now and get distracted 🤣

My boy was doing this and it turned out it was teething, it can make the latching on painful apparently.

@Emmie how many weeks was he?

@Lydiaa @Hannah that's definitely a challenge as well! I tried the muslin trick and it somewhat worked but not on the tricky side (right boob)

@Amanda my periods haven't returned yet, so not sure but I haven't had any symptoms x

I e been getting this recently. Not sure why. Was new to me as my first never did it and I don’t have a low supply either! No advice but you’re not alone 😅

@Francesca he started showing symptoms at 2 weeks but we didn't realise it was happening until 9 weeks. Started getting fussy at the boob at around 8 weeks when the teething really kicked in.

@Emmie that’s so early!!

@Francesca I know, absolute nightmare, he's really been struggling with it!

When my lo does this (10 weeks old) he's usually gassy or just doesn't want it yet. I take him off burp him or try again a few mins later

I've just had similar. My LO was ill and since then kept coming on/off several times. I was getting soaked in Milk. She was crying when I tried feeding. Anyway I posted in a BF support group and also contacted a lactation specialist I'd previously worked with ad baby had tounge tie. Alot of people said its baby upping your supply so it's something they do to order more milk. My mum ans husband made a point of saying mayhe she isn't hungry for milk every hour-2hour now just leave her longer till she shows hunger signs which I did and its worked much better. So as they get to this age I think they start getting in to a routine. She will tell me when she's hungry and that way she's feeding much better which in turn she's napping much better. She's having a few big feeds in a day instead of several small snacks.
