Fussy feeding

My little one has been EBF for the last 7 weeks but has really started fussing when on the breast in the early evening. Latching on and then pulling himself off and crying, so much so that I’ve had to give in the last two nights and give a bottle of formula (5oz) which he drains and then settles. Worried that my milk is not enough/drying up for some reason. Has anyone experienced this?

I’m not 100% sure but I think they normally do that to build your milk supply (not that you have too little, just that they’re growing and will need more)

I'm going through the same thing with my 8 week old. A few things I've tried are swapping boobs, burping him mid feed once he starts fussing and my partner will try taking him away and swaying him and then bringing him back once he has calmed to finish the feed. Sending love, hang in there!

It’s super common in the 3-6 month stage and is unrelated to low milk supply (from what I’ve read). I’d say feed a bit less frequently and see if they just want help going to sleep or if they want to be entertained.

It's very common. It's how they build your supply. If you five a bottle there is a danger that you'll start producing less. If giving the bittle works for you and yiu want to combi feed, that's different.

Thank you for all the positive messages. My partners family are all very anti breasting so have made me panic today about my LB not being full, needing topping up ect so this has really reassured me 😊

@Leah my family tells me that all the time. And to clarify around that time my baby would unlatch, fuss, root and latch again only to unlatch a minute (or less) later many times each day. It’s so normal. She also went from 50th percentile weight and height to 80th percentile at that time, so clearly she was getting enough
