Group B Strep

I have realised today that I never did a swab for Group B Strep, I definitely did this in my first pregnancy. I’m 37+3 today and my next midwife appointment I’ll be 39+1 (my 38 week appointment 🙄). I should definitely have done this by now right? I’m not going mad?

I haven’t had one, no one’s mentioned it 🤷🏻‍♀️

I never got offered it either! Now 39+4 and next appointment I’ll be 40 weeks

@Helen Ah fab, thank you! Must have changed in the last couple of years

You can buy the test privately online https://gbss.org.uk/info-support/group-b-strep-testing/ecm-test-where-how/

Did your midwife not give you a black cap swab in one of your community midwife appointments? As that's the swab that would pick up the GBS.

Nope, she did last time, but not in this pregnancy. I’ve only done an MRSA swab up my nose

It might be different in all areas the protocol. I'm GBS positive, so I can vouch that it's important to know. I also think this should automatically be done by swab for all pregnant women 🤷
