Contraception after birth & irregular bleeding

Hi all! So I had my baby girl 14 weeks ago and I started using the mini pill after 3 weeks so been on that 11 weeks now and I’m having irregular bleeding. I bled for 8 weeks after having her and then it would stop and start again every few days, and has been since. It’s not heavy but enough for me to have to use a tampon. I don’t know if it’s a period starting or if it’s maybe just a side effect of the mini pill. I can’t have the combined pill as I can’t have oestrogen due to migraines. I was previously on the depo injection for 5 years and took me nearly 2 years after stopping it before my body felt normal and I was lucky enough to conceive. I didn’t want to go on anything long term as I was thinking of maybe and hopefully trying again for another baby in a year or two. Maybe the mini pill isn’t working out for me but just want some advice coz I have no one else around me to ask. Thank you!

Hi, this was also my experience with the mini pill postpartum. It was frustrating as I had been on the mini pill before pregnancy and didn’t have this side effect! I guess birth just changes your body and hormones. I reached out to my GP who just said this is unfortunately one of the side effects. So I decided to stop taking it and just using condoms for now. Maybe when hormones are more level I would try the mini pill again. Sorry not much help but just wanted to say your experience is unfortunately quite common 😔

Before I was on the injection but came off it when I knew I wanted to try for a couple in the next couple of years and luckily I did with how long it took for my body to get back to normal! I was used to periods for so long and yeah idk it’s just so annoying sounds bad but I bled for 8 weeks after having her and couldn’t wait to just not see blood down there for a while but it’s just a nightmare tbh. I really hoped the mini pill would be good but no idea what to do then. Glad it’s not just me! Thank you for commenting!

I have decided not to take anything hormonal as we’d like to try for another after a year, so we are also using condoms to keep things simple.
