Hiya, I have the Baby Bjorn Mini Carrier and love it. I have a cover which is just a light rainproof one with a hood, and then another one which has a fleece lining which I’ve been using in the cold weather. When it’s really cold I will dress my little boy, whose four months, in a vest, sleep suit, booties, mittens, cardigan and hat, and then the fleece carrier cover over him. I act as another layer for him so he’s nice and warm but not too warm and covered from the elements nicely 😊
Hi! I've used a baby carrier (Tula free to grow) for a 10 mile hike before in the Highlands. I back carried my 1 yo for it so depending on you and baby carriers are definitely doable for longer walks. I have a coat which allows me to front or back carry which is handy and I bought a size up which allows my husband to use the same coat when wearing baby. We also have a bundle bean cover which means the cover can go over a coat rather than under. Few things to think about - if you're wearing them in the carrier under a coat they are less likely to get cold and you can monitor their temp better, plus they are physically closer to you so more likely to be chilled. In the backpack they get a better view, it's easier for them to eat snacks and you can carry other stuff in the backpack with them so if you were out solo it would double as your bag. Feel free to message if you want to chat more about this
I used my ergobaby until she was 18 months and switched to a lighter toddler carrier after because she was in and out of it to walk. My friend gave me a little life carrier but personally find it too big and bulky. When she was little and i front carried she would be in my coat in cold weather. I had a seraphine baby wearing gillet but also just an oversized coat that she could fit in x
For reference my lo is 16 months. I have a ergobaby omni 360 and a deuter kid comfort. She has been in the ergobaby since she was 1 day old. Until she was 7 months it was my only form of carrying her and on beating days she’d be in it for up to 6 hours. We’d also regularly walk for 3+ hours because it was my means of not going stir crazy in the house 😂. I have a sling cover (from a company called popperloops) that goes over the ergobaby and keeps her warm and dry. During the minus temperature months last winter she’d wear a vest, sleepsuit/clothes, padded suit, hat then the sling cover over the top. This winter she gets really cold legs so it we are out for more than an hour she wears a vest, clothes, a pair of tights, socks, a padded suit, fluffy booties, a hat and if she is in the ergobaby she has the sling cover, if she is in the deuter we have a waterproof cover if it’s raining or windy. We still use both and she will still go in both for several hours at a time.
We used a bundlebean to cover my ergobaby and now lenny lamb! Works great. Weve used them both for long hikes with no issues.
Primary online do a great baby wearing coat in maternity with zip insert
Thanks all, I feel like I'm still building fitness for longer walks but it's great to have all these ideas in mind 😊 Does anyone have one of those covers that doubles as a warm layer for the pushchair like the Comfi-Cape 2in1 Carrier Cape and Stroller & Pram Liner, are they worth it?
Ah just seen bundlebean is also a 2 in 1 😊
We had an ergobaby which we used for the first year as our little boy was really small. We also have a little life carrier but found he'd get really upset when we first tried him in it at around 10m old so left it a little while. Still a handy investment as it will get used eventually. I'd go for the waterproof cover for the ergobaby based on my experience. I never really thought about something like that at the time and just used to wrap my coat around both of us
