BLW and confidence with finger foods

Admittedly haven’t done much BLW and finger foods until now at 10 months. LO puts finger foods to his mouth and sucks on them, anything that is finger length but doesn’t understand the concept that when it gets smaller he can still eat it, he gets frustrated and just puts his fingers in his mouth. I guess he’s basically just a beginner with finger foods , I was always just a bit anxious to give them as he’s still got no teeth. Does this get better with practice, as in does it take time for them to be able to master the ability to eat smaller bits of food that are not cut in strips? He basically only eats maybe 5-10% of the finger food because of this, just worried that past the age of 1 he will be behind on this. He’s going to nursery in a couple of months and really just want him to be able to feed himself by then. Is there anything I can do to help speed this up?

It absolutely gets better with time. Like any skill, the more it’s worked at the more it progresses. He won’t be behind, try not to stress yourself out too much about it. Not every baby self feeds yet, but he will get it. Just keep giving him opportunities to work on his new skill. ❤️

I’m in the same boat. FTM and i am just starting BLW.

i felt the same way, very anxious and nervous about how BLW was going to go but trust me it gets better i also just started like last week,, we started with simple things like bananas, steamed broccoli, and toast which he did so well on that i just started going on pinterest and finding other recipes like pancakes and fritters they need time to figure out what is to much food and when they do they spit it out babies are smart and they don’t want to choke,, maybe just do a refresh on cpr just incase i always give something he can hold and then like a smoothie, i used to work in a nursery and they did the same thing - some cracker then pureed food and it’s only 4 babies at a time eat
