I had ketones a few weeks ago and my sugars were fine. I was really unwell at the time with I think flu, I struggled to give a urine sample as I hadn’t eaten or drank anything all day and had a bottle of water during hour of appointment and waiting before I could go. They let me leave on the basis that ketones were caused by dehydration and basically starvation mode and I tested them at home the next morning and got 0 after drinking lots of water and managing to eat some toast
So is it bad I’ve basically cut carbs out of my diet? I can’t keep my sugars down and eat carbs. I don’t have any carbs during dinner.
I've had ketones constantly and even 4+ at one point. I mentioned to the consultant and they did a blood plasma test which showed normal blood ketone levels so they weren't concerned. Can you ask for that to be checked? I was told ketones are very common when following a GD diet and as long as they're not in your blood it just shows your body is flushing out what it should
You need some carbs to support pregnancy! Just healthy carbs. You might need to talk through with your care team what you are eating in a meal to figure out what things you can add. A true low carb diet is too low carb for pregnancy. Healthy veggies. A slice of whole wheat or sour dough toast. Some nuts or trail mix (I really like trail mix in single serving packs because it's easy to know how many carbs in getting). Also, you want to have a snack before bed, around 10. Trailmix or a protein bar is a really good veggie bed snack. Good luck! I hope they help you figure out whatever adjustments you need and baby is cooking along well!
I had some ketones in one of my routine appointments and my consultant stressed the importance of still having one carb with every meal. Sometimes it can also just be timing of your urine sample and when you last ate. I had really cut back on sugar and carbs early days but after making sure every meal has a carb I’ve never had ketones show up in any further urine tests.
I dont think its bad necessarily - when cutting out sugar you’d expect ketones in your urine. Although I dont know how it impact pregnancy, I only know from a keto diet POV xx
I keep having ketones in mine. I have enough carbs in my diet and anymore I’d be having too much, I think mine is because I’m not drinking enough x
