Reduced feeds due to illness

My ten month old recently had bronchiolitis and was admitted to hospital for a couple of nights for support with breathing. Since we’ve come home he won’t take much of a bottle at all, little amount/ 1-2oz sometimes 3 but used to do 9oz 3 times a day. Hospital said leave one more night and assess and go back in tomorrow. I have managed to get 5oz down him dream feeding. Tried water and apple juice. In a cup. Anyone had a similar experience that can help?

My 9 month old was admitted to as he has bronchiolitis. Give it time. He might not be 100% yet xx

My son was in there for 3 nights on oxygen and when he came out he was like a completely different child. It really messes with there normal routine too xx

Not much help but little one was poorly before cmas and reduced to 3 bottles a day. Fast forward 3 weeks and we have added the 4th bottle back with extra oz. Id say just keep trying to get as much in as you can

Is he having wet nappies? My son was admitted when he was 8 months, we were in for 9 days and he was on feeding tube and oxygen, was ‘prescribed’ 100ml per kilo of body weight (which is actually less than he drinks). He was fed that through the tube then when we were discharged we slowly started to increase the feeds (mostly because he was being fed through the night in hosp). It took a couple of weeks to get back to normal/100% himself but at this age at least you can offer food too. We offered hydrating foods too, yoghurt, soup, things with milk in like porridge, fruits & veggies. Would also recommend little and often feeds. My little has been sick again 🫠 with a cold and off his milk and we found offering 100-120 ml every couple of hours he’s managed well as well as water & food.

My little one has been admitted with it a few times since he was born I had a similar issue with feeding they gave me a spray to numb the back of his throat and that and calpol seemed to really help ❤️xx

Yes, my boys had 4 lots on bronchitis last year. Went off his milk completely for a few days and was luckily if he’d have 2oz but he was taking bits of water throughout the day and one time weirdly wasn’t off his food. But he kept having wet nappies, his soft spot hasn’t sunken so he wasn’t showing signs of dehydration. We were given antibiotics, but I feel due to his cough and being quite unhappy/crying the milk sometimes “went down the wrong hole” which didn’t help plus I don’t think it was as refreshing as water and he could easily control the intake of water better due to the cup we use

@Paige we had to go back in this morning and they’ve given a throat spray it’s helped loads too!!

Thanks everyone! Yeah he wasn’t having wet nappies, so had to go back in today. He’s feeding some milk now when asleep after throat spray. Doesn’t want food at all. God it’s stressful. Supposed to be back to work this week. My first son was 3 months premature so it’s all so triggering as well being in and out of hospital. Feel a bit lost

@Natalie Mepham bless you it sounds rough. He’s in the best place at least 💜
