As Caroline said you still have to pay even if you’re on holiday. Otherwise they’d be better off filling that place with a child who was going to be there full time.
Childcare funding is claimed a term at a time.
If you haven't already, please try to secure a place at a nursery because they fill up quickly. You can put your child in nursery for 1day or more or even half days depending on what you agree with the nursery. Even if your child misses a month of nursery, you'll have to pay unless you remove your child and risk losing your spot. You can use the 15 free hours for part time placements. The nursery might still have consumables and food that you have to pay for. Your child would have to be 9 months already the the term prior to be eligible .
Also be aware depending on your nursery fees 15 hours does not necessarily mean 15 hours. For example at my nursery the government funding for free hours actually only covers 7.6 hours a week.
This all makes sense. Thank you, everyone, for your answers! We are in the midst of moving flats as our landlord is selling the place. It's not great timing as we will have to find another nursery wherever we move with such short notice 😔 we also don't have any family here in the UK, fingers crossed everything will work out in the end - trying not to stress 🙃
You would most likely have to pay even if not in. That said I took my son out of nursery for 3 months and they didn't charge me and held his place.
@Katie how come?
You pay for the place, not whether you use it or not. So you have to pay when you're on holiday too or you lose the place.
