Hi Mums who don’t have a reliable village… what jobs do you do and how do you manage childcare and term time? Thanks

I'm not yet up to that point (still pregnant due June) but we are having to look and sign up for Nursery wait lists now and we are just going to have to put them in full time so that we can both work. Definitely don't have a village support will be scarce with a set of grandparents overseas and the other grandparent in a different part of the UK from us. Thankfully by the time our child goes in it will be 30 hours funded (term time). I'm an accountant and my partner works shifts on the railway.

I work for a charity helpline from home and my Husband works as a digital artist, both working from home.We juggle all the childcare between the two of us.Thankfully his work is flexible and he can work any time,so whenever I'm working,he's not,and vice versa.Except we both have the day off on Saturdays. It's doable but we're both shattered most of the time and don't have any time for much else!We have signed our Daughter up to a local nursery but we didn't want to put her in until she was at least 2.

At the moment I work part time (4 days a week) and hubby works full time. We send our LO to nursery 3 days a week. For the day I work and she is home, hubby and I split the day with her so I'll take her in the morning then work in the afternoon when hubby takes her. We can both luckily work from home on Fridays but at some point we'll probably send her in to nursery 4 days a week when she's a bit older. We're not having to worry about term times at the moment as she's too young and nursery is open all the time apart from BHs and Xmas/NY

Work from home helps . Save up before the baby. so you have money for childcare au pair or nursery etc . Know that you have little time for yourself. Book activities you want to do in advance

I work part time three days a week in an office/lab based role. It was full time before having our first child. My husband works full time Monday-Friday. Our little boy goes to nursery 6:45am-6pm on those days that I work.

My eldest daughter is 3 and I'm dreading having to figure out what to do with her on school holidays!

I'm a teacher 😊

I work in safety and full time. Husband is full time too BUT works the night shift. And it is a struggle and a massive juggle. Childcare has always been childminders and now a preschool - so after 3pm - the struggle is unreal. Holidays are covered by work paid time off and holiday clubs. And being massively organised really helps. And I must admit, I have an equal partner so we just about manage

My husband and I both mostly work from home and I have Fridays off to spend with my youngest as he's at nursery otherwise. We use an after school club for our eldest twice a week and just make it work / skive a bit on the other two days we're both working.

@Caroline Hi Caroline , is your school walkable ? The reason why I ask is because when we are ready to start school, wondering if I will have to get a breakfast club (although, this is overly subscribed in our area) .. and we have an entire year to worry about... ..

@Swapna it takes about 20 minutes for us to walk to school at kid pace. We also ride a cargo bike and can take both kids in that. I can't drive but my husband can although we try to avoid driving to school as it's carnage and not faster once parking is considered. One thing to bear in mind is that school drop off is ridiculously specific. We can drop between 8:50 and 8:55 for reception class 😅 so thankfully we work from home and avoid 9am meetings otherwise we'd need a breakfast club. I don't know how working parents are supposed to commute!

@Caroline it's carnage at our nearby schools too. The anxiety is kicking in 😅

I had a job where I worked three long days when my son was little and then four short days but school hours when he started school however I changed back to three days during the holidays. My oh worked in retail so had Mondays off. We combined our annual leave and then used holiday camps for the rest.

A dentist. I work from 8:30-4:30 m-thurs and 8:30-1:30 on Fridays. My daughter goes to daycare.

We just have to do it ourselves. I’ve just gone back to work after number 2 and the eldest is reception so it’s our first full year doing school holidays. The youngest is in nursery all year round and the eldest will have to go to holiday club a little bit. I work 4 days and can work from home a little so it means I can do drop off and pick up (although she has to use breakfast and after school club) and my partner works from home sometimes too.

I don't have a vilage and my little ones dad has no involvement so it really is just the 2 of us. My LO is 1yo and is nursery 4 days a week while I work - going up to 5 in September. I'm a project engineer for a medical devices company.

I work as the Head of Customer Services, a hybrid role doing 35hrs a week and my husband is a HGV Engineer doing 50 hours. Our son is in nursery full time as thats the only way we can work it to survive 🥲 we couldn't live off just my husbands wage so we need mine as a top up! When my son is of school age, well be using the same nursery for their school clubs and using annual leave between us. Its very tough, but we make it work!
