Anyone opting out of your pension contributions during your maternity leave?

Hey everyone! I work for the NHS and am wondering if anyone else is planning on opting out of pension payments during maternity leave? I would rather the money now than when I can retire at 90 years old 🥲

My work take over my pension contributions when I’m on maternity leave I think…but if they didn’t then I would opt out temporarily, there’s plenty of time to save in the future and maternity leave will fly by and I would take any extra money I could

That's good! Yeah i honestly think it might be the best option money wise

Yeah I would! My partner works for NHS and is pausing his pension for a year to help with my maternity, just makes things abit easier x

@Abbie that's a good idea too! X

Employers have a legal obligation to keep contributing on your pre maternity salary, so whilst you will only pay your percentage contribution on your actual money your taking, they have to pay there percentage on your pre maternity pay so it may be worth leaving if you can or just reducing it as they will have to contribute much more x

@Emily good advice thank you!
