I’m 38 weeks and I’ve been told I can still have a water birth but have to have the antibiotics first so can’t go in the water for 3 hours, just got to make sure you tell the hospital as soon as labour starts x
I was cleared for a water birth in the midwife-led unit at our local hospital ☺️. They had the antibiotics pre-prescribed for me on my orange notes, so they made sure they had it ready when they knew I was going in to hospital 😊
It was picked up really early on in my pregnancy and I had one round of antibiotics to clear it. It's been fine ever since. I was worried about the impact on birth and it depends on your hospitals policy. I asked my midwife and they are able to give the antibiotics at the birth centre so I can still have the birth i'd like ☺️
@V so did you have the iv antibiotics at hospital and then when delivery of baby came you was allowed in the water? Xxx
@Melissa I’m pretty sure I had three lots of antibiotics in total? But was allowed in the water during that time. I ended up with an emergency section, but had had access to the pool for hours before that 😊
@V ahh okay! Thank you! I’m just so panicked I can’t have the birth I want but guess you get what you get! Xx
The antibiotics were given to me at the midwife-led centre 😊.
I have been given antibiotics today at 37 weeks as still testing positive for GBS. I was confused as before the midwife said I would just have them in labour but still got to even after these. I also have my heart set on a water birth which I have been told is fine. I read somewhere they can put a waterproof dressing over the drip so 🤞 all will be okay x
@Melissa yeah, it’s awful feeling you may have no control over it - especially as sometimes things are told to you like they’re fact, but you *do* have options ☺️. I had an emergency section with my first as well, and a midwife basically laughed at me and told me I’d ’never be allowed’ a water birth in the midwife-led unit seeing as I’d already had a section and had had a baby born group B Strep positive! Buy my midwife and consultant were so supportive of me 🥰. Its great that you’re doing your research now and finding out what options are available to you ☺️
I was not treated at all during my pregnancy but I didn’t have any discharge so maybe that’s why They start antibiotics as soon as your water breaks so you obviously can’t go into the water until your water breaks. I would imagine you can go into the water after that but your on should be able to answer that
