Random question notes on a bridge *possible trigger*

There’s a bridge near me where people leave little notes tied to it. Positive notes which seem to be aimed at people who might jump. Things like ‘each day is a new day’ ‘you are loved’ that sort of thing. The notes keep being removed then a few weeks later replaced. Can you think why they wouldn’t just be left?

I just thought it seemed like a nice hopeful idea. Not sure it would make a difference to anybody but surely it doesn’t hurt them being there? Wondering if I’d missed something and they were actually a bad idea.

Are you in Ohio? https://www.cleveland19.com/2021/09/01/inspirational-notes-left-northeast-ohio-bridges-prevent-suicide/

They could be classed as litter or they could be seen as encouraging people to go and look at them and get that close to the bridge. They may remove them to keep them from getting ruined also.

Might depend on the bridge. Lots of bridges here are historic and technically it is litter. Same with love locks, they get removed. I also thing they might encourage tourists to view them or even to linger on the bridge if feeling suicidal xx

@Raqi nope UK but great to see it’s working somewhere

Hadn’t thought about people lingering on the bridge. I did stop to read a couple when I first spotted them. I don’t read them now but I like seeing that someone has cared enough to do a little act of kindness. They’re little handwritten laminated cards tied on with ribbon.

I thought you were talking about music

People might be taking them home! Or the city crews clean them up and the community just keeps hanging more.
