Weaning

I've just started weaning and just wanted to see what others are doing. Are you doing BLW, purees or mixed? If BLW, what kind of finger foods are good for baby to hold. I've tried banana and avocado but too slippery for baby to hold. If purées, are you making your own or using pouches? Also would be grateful if you could kindly share your puree recipes that your baby loved 😊 I need some ideas. Thank you

I'm doing a mix. I've been making a puree and some sticks of the same food each day and then freezing some of the puree for later. I bought a crinkle cutter for things like avocado so he can hold it a bit better

If you roll avocado in some panko breadcrumbs or seeds in makes it easier for baby to grip. Or you could just mash avocado and mix with formula/breast milk for thinner and smoother consistency if you want to give as a puree

My little one is enjoying banana (she holds half or a third of banana by the skin at the bottom with the skin peeled downward at the top for her to put to her mouth; agreed it’s too slippery for babies if completely peeled and cut). Did a couple of purées but she definitely prefers grabbing finger food. Carrots, sweet potato and broccoli are great finger foods to start with

you could try mashing avocado with egg too, my baby likes that! we’re doing a mix of purées and finger food but tbh i’ve dialled it back a bit and just doing breakfast for now while he gets used to the whole thing

i’m doing puree at the moment! i do everything myself. i bought the tommy tippee blender but you could use any realistically. i’ve got a list of veggies and been ticking them off, giving LO one veggie at a time, figure out what she likes etc. now i’m introducing meat, started with chicken, and mixing the veggies together. BLW scares me 😂 but in a few weeks i plan to give her some finger foods at dinner time. i’ve been slowly introducing food since 4.5m so she’s very used to it now. this week we’ve started giving heinz baby porridge for breakfast - only a small bit, maybe 2/3tbsp

i do batch cooking as well. so i make a lot of food at once and separate it into 2-3oz portions. i always offer milk before dinner and let her eat until she’s full and haven’t had any issues :)

@Simone this is a good idea. Didn't think of it! Thanks

@Sarah what seeds are safe for baby?

@Becky ahh I didn't think of leaving some skin on the banana. Does your baby try and eat the skin?

@Dani thanks! I'll try this one 😊

@Ki how do you give your LO the meat? Do you blend it?

Mix. Doing my own purees from 🥕 , 🥦 , 🥔 mixed with breastmilk and BLW anything that's on the table- 🫑 , 🧅 , smoked shrimp 🍤 you named it my son probably chomped on it 😊

yes, everything blended into puree! :) i added the water i boiled the veggies in for extra goodness

The solid start app is great, you can look up how to prepare anything on there pretty much!

For me BLW is much easier as my girly has what I have (modified) and she hates purees/being fed. Her favourite thing so far is sourdough toast, steak and mini cucumber x

A mixture of purées and BLW. I batched cooked a load of veggies (separately) blended, and froze in ice cube trays. Take a couple out in the morning for lunch. I pre load spoons and let him feed himself. Then depending on what we have for dinner i give him something if he can. Tonight we had salmon, broccoli and new potatoes. I gave him something flaked salmon, soft boiled broccoli and crushed a potato with a fork.

Hey, we’ve just started BLW with my second. I’m going to try and do more self feeding this time round, last time was more of a mix of both. We’ve tried melon slices, cucumber, mango, spinach pancakes mini pittas and cream cheese some slippery food like cucumber can be easier if you leave a little bit of the skin on to help with grip. I find this site hlepful https://solidstarts.com

We doing a mix only been at it a week but she definitely prefers blw. She loved melon, mango, a stick of Cougette and tenderstem broccoli. Cries her eyes out if she drops them and I have to take them off her
