Eating

Does anyone else's toddler just eat when tf they want? I provide breakfast, lunch and dinner obvs but half the time he won't even look at it, even if it's something he's asked for! It feels like we are just throwing money away. Meals bleed into one another too, so he will ask for his breakfast back at like 10, then doesn't want much for dinner because he's not long eaten. He's on the smaller side, and I feel like he's missing out on meals etc. rant over!

Our boy is very much like this.

Ours isn't quite the same but it is very very difficult to get him to sit down and eat his meals. Meals tend to take much longer than it needs to.

Mine won’t really eat proper lunch/dinner meals at home. He eats well at nursery and goes 5 days so it doesn’t concern me if weekends aren’t great for food. He much prefers snacking. It’s really hard to know what to do though!

Yes kids will only eat when they are hungry

My son was like that till we got him into routine, and cut all the snacks out. And childminder is teaching them too that when they get food, they need to sit down, and eat (to prepare them for school and pre school) if they don’t eat they don’t get anything till they have food again. Now my son eats every time his food is put in front of him.

We have set meal times and a snack in-between each. If he doesn't eat what's put in front of him then he doesn't get anything else until the next time. Sandwich for lunch always works well as if he doesn't eat it, he can have it for his tea. It takes him forever to eat meals though 🙃
