Use cotton balls and warm water instead of wipes and dry him thoroughly then apply the cream. Wipes can sometimes be too harsh on little butts! Try and give him so nappy free time too, the fresh air will help!
My LO is dealing with this too! We were recommended to use water wipes instead of normal wipes and to at least once a day use a soft cloth and clean with gentle soap and warm water. Then keep using cream of choice.
Don’t use any wipes!! Most wipes contain some type of alcohol to keep mold from growing in the bags. Very inconvenient but put his butt under warm running water for clean ups and PAT dry. Do not rub the skin!! Target and Amazon sells a brand called butt paste comes in different concentrations for how bad the breakdown is. Apply liberally and with every diaper change, you don’t have to wipe off all the paste. The point of the paste is to create a barrier layer so just wipe the top poop layer off and apply some more. Also air dry as much as possible! Continuous moisture prevents the skin from healing and closing
This happened with my little one. His bum was so raw that there were areas that bled and it broke my heart. There were a couple of things I did that finally cleared it up - switched from pamper wipes to Millie moon wipes, my pediatrician prescribed an antibiotic cream, I let him lay on a washable pad without a diaper for least 15 minutes a couple times a day and my little one ended up being allergic to the milk in formulas so we had to switch to a special formula.
After getting rid of the poop, wash his butt with water in the shower or bath tub. Then double check any cracks with a wet wipe before putting on a balm or diaper cream
Quick question, is he breast fed or formula?
Reason I ask, is my daughter was the same exact way. Turns out, she had a milk protein allergy & couldn’t take my breast milk because I consumed a lot of dairy. As soon as we switched her to formula, the rash was instantly gone the next day. You could always try cutting out dairy/milk or formula and see if the rash goes away.
the only thing that cleared my daughters rash up was when i put some breast milk on it
For diaper rash cream, the higher the Zinc the more it heals the rash. Letting babes lay around diaper free maybe during tummy time is a good also! I buy Whoopsie wipes (dry cotton wipes) and use a little thermos to keep warm water in for changes. Sudocrem or Desitin I believe are good options.
Awww poor baby this breaks my heart because I know your pain right now trying to combat this-been there before. Stop using the wipes until better Fold a dry towel underneath butt during changes and take a semi cool cloth to the bum while squeezing the plain water over the soiled area to clean it Pat dry Let baby’s bottom breathe a bit if you can even if only for 10 minutes and then apply cream and be generous with this. It’s ok to apply thick-use judgment If you have these 3 products at home you can make a paste that will get you results overnight especially if you aren’t using wipes and you are prompt on changes Mix these 3 in a container in equal parts until mixed well and be sure to put a lid on the container for storing. Store in fridge so when you apply it’s cool providing comfort. Once you see the redness fading and skin returning to normal just apply aquaphor as normal to seal out wetness Metronidazole or Lotrimin -just needs to be antifungal cream) Aquaphor Zinc
My baby had a diaper rash when she was a couple weeks old for a few weeks until I started using Aquaphor. Now rash free for 5 month or so. I use it every time I change her diaper.
@Caitlyn he’s formula fed! I was pumping for a while but jsut couldn’t keep up with everything else I have to do in the day unfortunately ):
@Bree some formulas also have the milk protein as well. You could try changing formulas! But I know from experience what a hassle that is! I’m so sorry your little one is going through this!
my little one is dealing with this as well aquapho mixed with breast milk helped also diaper rash cream

When my LO had a diaper rash, his pediatrician suggested cornstarch. His rash was gone the next day and he’s never had another one since and that’s been 2 years ago
1. No wipes 2. Diaper free time 3. For me, I was desperate at 6w so I changed the diapers and the wipes over to cloth and in just a few days of that his rash went and never came back. We used cloth for both, for the duration of his time in diapers. Cloth is more breathable and completely non toxic. I didn’t even use any creams because anything on his butt (including water/bath) at the time made him scream. It turned out to be chemical burn not allergies or thrush.
You should try too use aquapor i use this for my son because sometimes the wipes are rough on his butt and caused a rash also I use this all the time even when he didn’t get a small red rash I just always applied it too help with any constipation or any rash that may form in future I put it on after every change . Also before i noticed to make sure to wipe super soft it works wonders clears up fast also you should bath him every other day and put the ointment and some kind of powder over it scentless preferably i usually just brown flour lightly and put it right on my babies butt and it heals it right away and just be sure to change baby more frequently and especially poopy diapers so hes as dry as possible
It's probably an allergy to the wipes. Get some badger sunblock put it on the rash at every diaper change and switch to the water wipes at Walmart. You should be good after that. Sometimes they are allergic to the diapers, but it's more than likely the wipes.
Be careful not to wet the wipes too much water can really break the skin barrier just bathe the baby every other day until the rash clears and i usuallt bathe my som every three days normally then you should apply a ointment aquaphor really helos to heal and repair broken skin and then you need to apply a dry subtance to keep the butt dry try not to dry it but dab the butt when drying and use all unscented items and if possible try too switch back and forth once you see the rash clearing too only powder too keep the butt dry. I hope this works i also did nit bathe my son untol his cord was off only wiped him down with soap and water
The badger sunblock has no bad ingredients. It's great for cuts too. You can get it from the health food store. Anything with zinc oxide really. Diaper rash cream and sunblock both have zinc oxide as the main ingredient and can be used interchangeably. I just prefer the badger because there's no parabens or petroleum or any cancer causing ingredients like that in it.
Had the same thing and my Dr said to stop using baby wipes and wash him with water in the sink. This really helped. He also suggested wiping with olive oil if it didn’t clear up. Also nappy free time is great to do.
RN here just treated my babies horrible diaper rash at home, here are my recommendations: At night: Breast milk and oatmeal baths every night, only using dove sensitive skin (fragrance free) soap on that area every night with bath time, pat dry, breastmilk layer (let air dry), then THICK Triple paste layer (you want to layer it like your frosting a cake). During the day: give your baby a break from diapers and let his bottom get fresh air as much as possible AND I also alternated diapers by putting cloth diapers on at times. Best tips are to pat the diaper area clean with wipes (don't rub, it'll chaff the area more), give as much fresh air as possible, and when using diapers LAYER triple paste thick, you want to think about using it like frosting, a thick layer will protect the skin.
I use thick and wet wipes from Woolworths it works and I use sudo cream
My son’s skin is really dry like mine. We’ve been using the petrolatum cream they used in the hospital since birth, we put a little dab and rub it into every diaper instead of on his skin. It really seems to help prevent diaper rash
don’t knock it until you try it, just basic aquaphor. game changer
The only diaper rash cream that would work on my kids is called Calmoseptine. You can find it on Amazon and it’s just listed as an ointment. It works so much better than any other cream though. Having them go diaper free can also help even though it can be a pain.
Have you tried an and d or different diapers??
Put the diaper rash cream on the diaper not the skin and alternate between giving wipe downs with wipies and a wash cloth @Bree

With mine, just washing their bums instead of using wipes for most of the changes works perfectly. As soon as I see any redness, I start doing that and it prevents the rashes to get ugly.

Had the same problem. We started cleaning our baby with cotton balls dipped in water ( just keep a bowl with water by the changing station) and it went away in a couple of days.
We’ve been trying to dab when we can instead of wipe (which sometimes isn’t possible) and letting her butt air dry a little bit on the changing table before we use cream & a clean diaper
@Isabela that’s so smart!
He’s adorable !!!!🥺Aquaphor was by far my favorite for diaper rash or any other rash or scrape !! But that’s so weird they didn’t help you more. Usually pediatricians can put in a prescription for a medicated ointment
