Two year old flapping hands?

My son turned two the other day and the last couple weeks I’ve noticed he started flapping his arms and hands sometimes and it’ll be randomly sometimes when he gets excited or like really agitated. I noticed because my nephew is autistic and that’s stimming thing he does as well as walk on tip toes which I’ve noticed my son do as well but it’s not always just sometimes. He’s alert, talks, responds to name etc. and otherwise don’t really have any other concerns of autism so is it just a thing he’s going thru right now? Not that it’s a bad thing ofc but it’s just something I’m keeping an eye on.

My little boy still flaps too. Mainly at the tv. I have the worry too but he doesn’t show any other signs of autism. It’s literally just the flapping!

It can just be a way of trying to express / control their emotions. At 2 they start learning and recognising more complex emotions but sont always understand them. And the walking on tops is common particularly when they are trying to jump as they need to learn to go on their tip toes to do this properly. If he's talking, meeting his milestones and is social then it's unlikely to be autism 😊

@Hannah this is a lovely reassuring comment. When you say ‘talking’ do you mean even just single words? I’d say my little one is saying well over 50 words and very slowly putting two words together. He sings lots of songs too. But I always have the niggle x

Sounds like your little one is doing great tbh especially if they are singing songs. They can fluctuate a little with milestones as well, so mine is really advanced in the physical ones but a little behind in his speech. But this is also normal. So I understand the niggle. Keep doing what your doing, your doing great and if ypu do get really concerned it's worth speaking to your midwife just to be sure.😊

@Hannah thank you for this. It’s so hard to not worry. With have a visit from the HV tomorrow. Wish I would just stop worrying and enjoy this time!x
