Sterilising bottles

Hi everyone When should I sterilise the babies bottles for the hospital? It seems to say online if they haven’t been used for 24 hours they need to be sterilised again but obviously I don’t know when I’ll be going in and I’d like to do it for the bag incase I need them?

They have facilities at the hospital for you to sterilise bottles, assuming you’re in the UK. But yeah they’re only sterile for 24 hours, so you could always sterilise before you leave for the hospital but that could be a faff! They do also have bottles you can use as well :)

@Frayere They don’t in lots of hospitals. Ours said we were to bring the pre made bottles with attachable teats, as they did not have facilities to sterilise bottles, so it’s definitely worth checking with your hospital to see what they do x

@Mish ah fair enough! You’d assume they all do as it needs to be done haha!

Mine didn’t allow me to sterilise bottles either. However they did provide sterile ones and teats, they showed me where they were kept and had access to them whenever I needed

I used premade bottles but as they only drink such a small amount my hospital gave me a little bottle to use and put the premade in the fridge for me and I buzzed when he needed feeding and they'd put it into a bottle and heat it for me

@Frayere you would yes! X

They will only stay sterile for 24 hours so best to buy the ready made ones for the first few days. They drink such tiny amounts anyway ☺️

Some hospitals don’t have sterilising or formula making facilities. If you intend to bottle feed get the ready made ones + disposable teats

In my hospital we are told to bring ready made bottles

Some hospitals provide formula and bottles. Ours did. Check with your maternity ward.

i went into hospital dead set on breast feeding, it didn’t work out but they have lots of disposable bottles for you to use while in hospital x
