Funded hours with a childminder

Sorry a long message but my head is 🤯 I just wondered if anyone else had funded hours with a childminder who only accepts them in term times even though your LO goes all year? My LB will be 2 in April, we get a different bill every month. Sometimes £200 odd sometimes £800 odd depending if there’s a holiday. It’s been ok as I know I’m lucky, some childminders not accepting the hours at all but when the hours rise to 30 in September how will this work? I work 22.5 hours a week and if the hours were spread evenly across the year (as I understand if what nurseries do) it would perfectly cover the 3 days a week he’s in childcare. But, if we have this term time only system will I be in a + or - each month or maybe - won’t exist so will not get the full benefit of the 30 hours?

The nursery my daughter is at she attends full time but they won't spread the hours. We basically worked out what we would pay for the year and transfer it to the tax free childcare account when we get paid so there is enough for the holidays without it costing us more at the time. I also work 22.5 hours (my daughter does 25 at nursery at the moment) so when we get to September we are gonna add an extra morning.

My childminder doesn’t spread the hours but allows you to carry them into the holidays if you don’t use enough hours. My son goes 9 hours 50 mins for 3 days a week. For the funded weeks we therefore don’t use 30 mins a week. She adds all these up and takes them off the bill for the next holiday week. Does that make sense? Maybe ask if yours will do that/ check the contract.

We don't use holidays as we are teachers but last term was longer so we had to pay for the full last week of term in December. I guess if she opened in holidays we would have to pay full for those too.

You don't have to use the full 30hrs, the childminder will only claim what you use

I have to have mine at home on half term as it would be way too expensive to have him with her all year. I also pay a top up fee he goes 2 days there and I pay 50 odd pound to her . 2 days at nursery and pay a 55 pounds top up fee to them which is also term time

@Marie mine used to do this but got audited so had to stop it . We now have to save our unused hours and she could potentially take him for another day in half term

My childminder does the hours term time early, I get 15 hours. I put money away each month into a separate account to cover the extra bits
