First Midwife App

I'm 8 weeks pregnant and was given an appointment for the midwife for 17th Feb, I called when I got the app as I'll be over 12 weeks and I read there were blood tests they need to do before 10 / 12 weeks. Today, I've had a cancellation and can't seem to get hold of anyone to get a new app booked. I'm meant to be under the care of St Michael's and live in BS3, which I know is a very busy maternity area. I'm not sure what to do, it's my first pregnancy so it's all a bit new to me and I'm worried that my bloods won't be done in the right time scale. Does anyone have any advice or have you been in the same situation, did you have your bloods taken after 12 weeks? Was everything okay? Any words of wisdom to calm an anxious mother to be 🤣

if it helps, I had a 10 week appointment with my midwife and then had bloods done at my 12 week scan appointment. The bloods at 12 weeks are to test for edwards and Down syndrome if you choose to have them. I believe that’s the first set, unless you have any risks or anything in your family history such as diabetes or high blood pressure etc. your first 10 week appointment is usually just a bunch of questions about your family history, current living situations and lifestyle etc. hope this helps! X

@Bethany thank you, that is helpful! I thought there was one about blood types before 10 weeks but cant find where I saw it, and my mum had pre eclampsia and I've got a sibling with Type 1 diabetes so I may have elevated risks there, but I'm sure I'll get advice on that soon. Hopefully I'll hear back from them with a new app soon 🤞 xx

Just checked my badger notes for you and there is a blood test at 10 week appointment, it tests for your “blood group and rhesus factor, antibodies” you’re right, and they do a urine sample to confirm the pregnancy I believe. This is my 2nd pregnancy and I had diabetes and pre eclampsia last time so I know they’re doing things a little differently. Hopefully you hear back soon xx
