TW: Pelvic Floor Pain

Hi all, I’m looking for some insight. Prior to having baby sex was always on the more painful side (I am a sexual assault survivor) so the pain from sex has always been a trauma response and one I could work through in the moment with my partners help. Now, nearly 4 months post csection we have started to resume activities. The same pain is still there but I am now also experiencing pain deeper almost right below my C-section scar. It’s the kinda pain that no matter what position or breath work is not going away. My doctor has recommended a ultrasound to rule out adhesions that may have occurred from the csection but is also optimistic that an ultrasound will show them. Has anybody experienced this? My doctor has also recommended pelvic floor therapy. What should I expect from that? Thanks. Signed, a slightly freaked out new mom who just wants things to be normal….

Pelvic PT has changed my life for the better. My PT is phenomenal. I worked with her pre pregnancy, during, and now post C-section. They typically do internal exams/work and help get things moving/working correctly. Totally worth it. I was worried as I’m a SA victim too, but she worked me through all of it to be able to do work!

@Sam thank you. This is wonderful to hear. I have an apt made with a PT and just the thought of someone new working with me is nerve wracking so it’s great to hear such positive feedback!

Hey! I second pelvic floor PT. I also had very painful sex for years and after about 4 months working with a pelvic PT the pain is essentially non-existent unless I don't keep up with my maintenance exercises. Personally I think pelvic floor PT should be standard care after every pregnancy, it corrects so many post pregnancy issues that we just allow women to struggle with like it's the "price for having children" such as incontinence and prolapse.
