Formula feeding

Hi all, my little boy was born 14 weeks early (26 weeks) he is now 31 weeks and is being fed by a NG tube breastmilk. However thinking ahead breastfeeding was personally something I didn’t want to do and didn’t with my first. I’m expressing but it’s really getting me down, when speaking to the nurse she said that expressing and bottle feeding would be a lot and also with a toddler in the mix. I agree - however I feel guilty to say I really don’t want to breastfeed, have any other mums felt like this and agreed to formula feed? My motto is a fed baby is a happy baby - but I don’t want to cause any harm as he was and still is so premature. Thanks in advance x

I felt exactly the same! I also had my LG at 26 weeks and she has a feeding tube still at 7 months (4 corrected). We ended up moving onto formula and didn’t see any difference. Like you say fed is best. Be kind to yourself and do what’s also best for you xx

I know I shouldn’t but feel very judged within NICU - and noone is necessarily making me feel like that just my mind over thinking. I’m glad you didn’t see any real differences makes me feel more at ease. Such a rollercoaster journey - pleased your little one is ok ❤️

My little one was 4weeks early I tried to breastfeed but she wouldn't take to it.So I ended up bottle feeding she's one on Sunday and looking back to now I'm so glad I picked to not stick G breastfeeding as she issuch a hungry baby and it would have been tiring and at least bottle feeding you can get into some sort of rountie Do whatever is best for you and baby and forget what anyone else says You're not going to do any harm fed is best whichever way you do it! Congratulations

Hey, I have twin boys born at 31 weeks and now who are now 11 days old. I’ve been trying to express but really struggled, I was just about getting enough milk for 1 baby and then the other went onto formula. But I’m now making the decision to give them both formula and we will also start bottle feeding soon. They are still so tiny and it’s easier for them to have a bottle then try to figure out breast feeding which takes a lot more energy for them and I know they will gain weight quicker which is the goal for me so I feel happy with my decision. I however also feel judgement from staff and others but you’ve absolutely got to do what’s right for you x

Thank you girls - I spoke to the consultant today and going to start introducing formula in a few weeks and wean him into it. Hope all your babies are doing well ❤️
