Antenatal classes

Hi all! I’m due in July and looking to sign up for an antenatal/potentially hypnobirthing class in Oxford. Do you have any recommendations for which are the best here? X

We did NCT and loved it, we’re still friends with our group almost 4 years later. I did an online hypnobirthing course. The breathing techniques were useful but I found it put a huge amount of pressure on mums to have a “positive birth experience”. Many of my friends who had to have forceps etc felt like they were failures, because they had been conditioned by hypnobirthing that they should be able to give birth naturally with no interventions. My first birth was intervention-free but my baby ended up in the NICU. Definitely not a positive birth from my perspective! Sorry for going on about it, but I would warn anyone before they did hypnobirthing x

I didn't do NCT as I couldn't afford it and my friends from work who had done it said they didn't like it. We did the online classes through Oxford NHS trust and found them really helpful. My husband couldn't attend a few due to work, so I sat taking notes for him to read later on. You could ask questions along the way which was good and because it was ran by a midwife from Oxford they could answer questions about how things work in Oxford re: birthing place options, policies around induction and birth partners staying rather than generic answers. You book it online yourself and can do either 4 evening classes or 1 whole day and 1 evening.

We did NCT in 2021 and thought it was fab. Still close friends now!

We did ‘Happy Parent Happy Baby’ classes instead of NCT, and found it really useful and social
