University

Hi!
I really want to study midwifery at University . I have two children who are ages 3 and 21 months . I was wondering if anyone on here can give me insight to what I could potentially expect if I do this degree especially because I have children.
When do placements start? Can you request placement hours to be shorter? Is it even doable with really young children ? What is it like?
I want to do it but I’m worried that it will take me away from my kids too much.

Not midwifery but I’m in my 3rd year of my nursing degree. I only have my 3year old so can’t comment on how it will be with 2 children. It’s hard work especially as I work 2 days per week alongside my full time course. My advice is lean on your village, accept those offers of help!! Placements are tough, they can be flexible with shifts though. If you want it go for it, time on the course really does fly by ☺️xx

My mum tried to do a midwifery course when I was 10 and my younger brother was 8 (so a long time ago) but having 5 kids, a husband that ran his own business so wasn’t always around to help with school runs and no family about she gave up! Said it’s her biggest regret in life and wishes she had the support around her to do it! It might be worth talking to uni and seeing what the flexibility is? Also might be worth contacting a childminder to see if they can lend a hand and can be flexible? I know if one of my childminding mums said she was doing midwifery I’d try and help wherever I could xx

There’s a group on facebook called ‘secret community for midwives in the making’ that has lots of posts like this with lots of advice and experiences in the comments, might be worth joining if you haven’t already x

Period like cramps

Hi
I’m currently 33 weeks pregnant and I keep getting period like cramps I thought these were Brixton hicks but I’ve heard they only last 30 seconds ish as this can go on for a good time frame then go away and come back, they aren’t bad enough where I can’t do basic things they just feel like I’m about to get my period I’m jus wondering how normal this is? Baby is still very actively kicking xx

C section or natural?

I am a control freak and thinking c section is the least stressful route for me and baby… less complications during labour etc. whilst acknowledging recovering can be hard.
If it could be guaranteed no tearing or complications then I would opt for natural and kind of want to experience the feeling.
Then again could plan and go either way 😂 arghh!
Anyone else in this predicament?

Day out after c section

Hey,
I had an emergency c section 1 week ago I obviously don't want a day out right now but I have things booked for the Easter holidays so in 2 weeks. I was just wondering if I will be overdoing it if I have a day out then or will I be ok? I would still take it as easy as I could. When did everyone feel good enough to go out?

Midwife check

Can someone remind me when the midwife visits you at home? Is it the day after you’re discharged? And is that the same on the weekend or do they not visit then? Thanks!
