A cup of regular coffee is around 90mg and Iced coffee has less caffeine than that so it shouldn’t be that much. I had 1 coffee a day. Definitely no more than 2 to be safe.
They say you can have a cup of coffee a day . Its going to also depend on the coffee you’re drinking like if you’re making it at home you can check on the nutritional fact and it will tell you how much caffeine is in the whole container and then you just do the math based on the serving size you’re drinking and if you’re buying from like Starbucks or something most of the time you can look at the business’s menu and it will tell you how much caffeine is in each drink based on the size you get . The recommend amount of coffee for a non pregnant person is 400mg and for a regular caffeine drinker that is pregnant is half that which is the 200mg . Hope that helps a bit . But honestly if you’re buying most cut it down to just one large iced coffee instead of two that will probably be right under your 200mg
Hey heyyy! Okay I gotchu! So, 200mg of caffeine. Good rule of thumb- depending on where you go for that large iced latte, that’s about all you’re able to have a day at Starbucks(see pic for reference). Howeverrrr- you can stretch that allowance a bit by going half decaf(I became a half decafer myself!), and you still get the coffee taste, but not as much caffeine so really, if you wanted, you could have a half decaf latte in the am, and still have room for either another half decaf or full decaf latte in the afternoon. Just cause you gotta cut back, doesn’t mean you don’t get your coffee imo. My OB also has told me, “if that cup of coffee makes you happy/helps keep your sanity throughout the day, have that 1 thing of coffee. Just don’t overdo that caffeine.” So this is the way I’ve personally combatted that allowance.:) Hope that helps!:) We can still have our coffees!:)
Also, just watch out for chocolate intake as well- this one I do a really bad job of, but chocolate has (scant compared to coffee but still..😅) amounts of caffeine in there as well- I think more likely dark than milk, but just an fyi😅
They didn't even give me an amount this time, but with my last (2020) the rec had increased to up to 300mg since my first when it was 200mg (2018). Emily Oster does a really good analysis of actual studies on coffee consumption during pregnancy in Expecting Better that helped me a lot. A big problem with our coffee consumption is all the sugar and fat we add to it with our coffeeshop lattes and all. A cup of coffee at home may have the same amount of caffeine as a sugary Starbucks drink with 1-2 shots of espresso. I never worried about having two 12oz cups of brewed coffee or the second being an occasional latte. That being said, I'm pregnant with my third and have a 4 and 6 year old, so it's caffeine or suffer these days and I don't stress about lattes on the regular or a third cup this time around. Matcha lattes (at home) got me through my first trimester; I appreciated that they have less caffeine and it's a more sustained energy, but then I just lost the taste for them. Trying to work them back in.
@Audrey i've been bene thinking about switching over to matcha because I do like that also but dunkin always seem to give me more foam in my cup than the actual matcha
Being someone who can’t go without coffee, half caff has been the way to go (think one regular shot of espresso and one shot of decaf espresso to make up a med/large latte). Gives a little bit of a boost without it being too much!
Yes i do the same - 1 regular filter coffee at home and then a decaf when I’m out or a weak tea (tea bag in and out) with milk or cocoa sometimes. Without coffee I’d be a total wreck and not being able to deliver at work
*Not filter but french press
I started drinking decaf instead. I was more concerned of its effects because my baby had a small hole in his left ventricle.
