Hand holding when walking

My LO has only started walking in the last 3 weeks or so but I’m really struggling to get him to hold my hand when out & about & we let him have a little walk around. I get he wants to enjoy his new found freedom to move around but I cannot for the life of me get him to hold my hand when walking, if I hold his hand or wrist we end up in tantrum meltdown on the floor! I fear the only way is repetition you either walk holding my hand or I wrestle you into the buggy until you understand?! Any tips?

No tips but same boat- he’s been walking since 12 months and he won’t hold our hands. To get back in the stroller we have to bribe with a snack. Once it gets nicer outside we’ll try more

I got my daughter this backpack reins as she hates holding my hands as well when walking and this works for us. I was in a shopping centre today and she loved it and I also had her stroller but meant she could have that freedom but I knew I had control :)

My son was the same with the hand holding in the beginning we kept practicing and now he will hold my hand if we go out for a walk. Obviously he’s 17 months so it’s not perfect all the time, he is a toddler but if he lets go of my hand when we’re out and about walking I just remind him that it’s not safe and if he does keep doing it I put him in his pram or carry him. I’d say practice with a small journey to begin with, we just walked on our street and back home to begin with. Also do try the reins like the other person said as a precaution x

My little one holds my finger, but she also has a backpack with a security line on incase she decides to bolt :) even though she holds my finger she will still not want to go the direction I want to go, she only holds it more to lead me then follow me.

I put reins on my lo for this reason 😂. Otherwise I just end up dragging her round by her coat hood 🙈
