Tummy time and crawling

My youngest is 8 months old and has been sitting unaided since 5 months sits and rolls from front to back. He’s started rocking while sitting to try and move and trying to turn to reach objects but since he learnt to roll onto his back he refuses tummy time. He won’t roll from back to front and the second I place him on his front, he rolls straight back onto his back so he’s not building up the arm strength to start crawling and thus is so frustrated he can’t move anywhere. I keep rolling him back onto his front but he screams and immediately rolls back. He just won’t stay on his front or roll onto his front so I’m not sure how he’s gonna learn to crawl and beginning to be concerned about developmental delays. Any advice/tips?

Have no advice sadly but my little boy is the same, he won't roll straight over but he makes very little attempt to crawl. We think he'll just learn to stand and walk instead. I've been reading up on it and it's quite common for some babies to never crawl

Have you tried encouraging rolling onto belly? Try holding his favourite toy at arms reach from him then encourage him to shift his weight onto his side with that toy and then rolling over. There might be other ways of encouraging to roll onto belly. At least nappy changes are slightly easier for you 😅

Artie can roll both ways but rarely does it. She can sit and slide herself backwards but she can’t get on all fours yet. My 3 year old didn’t roll till 9 months, he didn’t seem weak or anything just wasn’t bothered and didn’t do it. He was walking 4 later though. He does have a speech delay and I’m pretty sure he’s autistic but his big sister is and she was nearly walking at 9 months 🤷‍♀️ I think he’s hyper mobile so maybe that’s why he was a little slower, I’m curious to see if Artie will be too because she’s on the slower end of things. I’m a firm believer in that will if that can/are strong enough so I just let them be/give them opportunities to do what they can and build up.

@Ebony I have tried but he just screams and rolls straight back or planks out rigidly so I can’t roll him 😂

@Kierrah So my eldest never really rolled but crawled at this age. I am also a firm believer of every child is different and they’ll do it when they’re ready but my youngest just won’t and it’s upsetting watching him get frustrated he can’t get from A to B

@Kat I have a feeling this may be the case as he has always wanted to be sitting or standing up instead.

@Sophie my little boy is the same. Constantly wants to be on the move but can't go anywhere yet so he gets so frustrated bless him. Always got to stand or bounce, it's exhausting hah

@Sophie he's just got other plan. You never know he might be a walker before a crawler 😊 unfortunately my 8 month old has been crawling for 3 months so make the most of the sitting still as you will go crazy trying to chase him down 24/7 😅

My boy has never done a huge amount of tummy time (neither did my daughter). She learned to crawl at 9/10 months. He is currently launching himself at things he wants from a sitting position and ends up on his tummy. I’m just trying to keep some things he wants out of reach so he has to work for it.
