Toddler Eating Less

Recently my 2.5 year old, who used to eat so much, has been eating drastically less. Foods she used to eat huge portions of she barely touches, and she won't give new foods a second glance. I've limited snacks and treats so she's more motivated to eat real food, but she still eats so little. She started eating less around the same time her little brother home from the hospital, but I'm not sure if that's a coincidence or a cause. Any advice? Is or has this happened to anyone else? What can I do to get her interested in eating again?

Mine had this problem and her doctor said it’s normal at this age to eat less and be picky. She prefers eating off our plate so lately we haven’t made her own plate and just let her eat from ours, she eats more that way. We also buy more healthy organic snacks so I don’t feel too bad if she only snacks the whole day

My daughter was going through the same phase. But now she’s back to eating everything.

Decreasing food consumption/being picky is totally normal at this age, mama! You’re doing great. My 2.5 year old would’ve been considered to be having a “food strike” recently where her usual food wasn’t doing it for her and sometimes she would literally say “don’t want it” 🤣 I sort of acted like everything was normal, let her be while also making sure the snacks she ate were filling and reminding myself that this will pass and she is getting what she needs. I just don’t give up offering her as I always did. Rather I would encourage her to listen to her body and eat what felt right. Through time it has passed and she’s back to eating everything as she did before this period of time!

My daughter is also eating less now; it’s totally normal for them to go through phases like this, especially as their rapid growth from baby to toddler has slowed done a bunch. Just keep doing what you’re doing and eventually they’ll hit another spurt where they want to eat anything and everything all the time, haha

@Erin yes! Very true!
