I was told to get them to go chin first. They have a reflex on their chin that gets them to open their mouths wide. Also putting the nipple towards their nose.
I saw the feeding team and they recommended something called the flipple where you flip your nipple down so it is the last thing to go into their mouth. This technique helped me so much.
Laying back with baby across my chest (like you may have done in recovery after delivery) is really working for us! We've done every feed that way today and it's helped the little guy get a nice deep latch, after a full day of fussing and shallow latching yesterday x
My little girl is tiny and I was getting sore nipples from the bad latch..I find at the early stage the rugby ball position helped a lot. Otherwise speak to your midwife as they can help/refer you, and seek a local breastfeeding support group :)
Hey, what have you tried so far? Flip your nipple up, tease them with it so they opens their mouth and then put it right to the roof of their mouth. Also try different positions? If they prefer one boob to the other old them as though they're feeding off their favourite boob like a rugby ball. Are you wanting a deeper latch because it's painful?
