Hand foot and mouth

My little one woke up this morning covered in spots. I thought it was chicken pox but by bedtime I am sure it's actually hand foot and mouth. Babe has been fine all day but we are waking every 20 minutes ir so writhing, clearly soo uncomfortable. Any other mummies got through this? How long does it last? What can be done to help relieve the suffering? Is there any point going to the GP other then for a diagnosis? šŸ˜Ŗ

Oh no dear little thing! We found oat baths or bicarb baths helped with the itching, calamine lotion. Nappy free time if the spots are in the groin. Keep up with painkillers and if they get them in the mouth or throat you can get a numbing spray from the Dr's. It lasted just over a week with our little one, the dr checked the spots and confirmed it was hfm then prescribed a numbing spray x

Our girl went off most food because of the mouth ulcers but would eat yoghurt, porrisge, grapes & watermelon. Xx

Vira soothe or poxclin are cooling and relieve itching, either of these will be useful. A throat spray from the pharmacy if any in mouth and struggling to eat and drink. Thereā€™s nothing a GP can do really unless you have any specific concerns (it can get infected and if they stop eating and drinking etc)

Poxclin and two oat baths a day really helped our little boy and he wasnā€™t bothered by them. Whether that was because of this or he had a milder case, Iā€™m not sure. He was covered and it lasted around 6-7 days until all spots were scabbed over x
