Shorter feeds

My baby turns 14 weeks old tomorrow. She is EBF and used to feed for anywhere between 15-30 mins. In the last couple of weeks she has only been feeding for 10 minutes or less. Sometimes she only wants to feed for 5 minutes. I have tried winding her and then putting her back on the breast, I’ve tried switching breasts, tried giving her a couple of minutes break then trying again but nothing seems to be working. She doesn’t seem to be in pain, or hungry. She’s smiley and happy but just keeps pulling away from the breast after a few minutes like she’s finished. Has anyone else experienced this or know if it’s normal? I’m worried about her not getting enough milk!

My son was the same way. My experience was that he was gaining weight appropriately but he was just a snacker. Also, your milk content may contain more calories making her feel full.

Is there any chance at all you’re pregnant? If not I’d say your milk changed in some way. My daughter did the same thing around like 16 weeks ish, my milk had changed flavor for several reasons, but the cause was I was pregnant, and my iron had been completely depleted. My milk went from being super rich and sweet to almost salt water

Once you are established, and once they hit the 3 month mark, they tend to feed quicker as they are able to draw out more at a time. As long as your bubba is gaining weight, and is happy and seems like she is content after feeding then you have nothing to worry about. I’d weigh her in a couple of days time to see if she’s gaining weight, if she isn’t; wait atleast a week and check then as they do weird growth spurts where they don’t put weight on but their legs grow 2cm and then the next week after they put on a whole lb! X

For the last month or so my boy only really feeds for 4-10 mins a side . I worried about it but he’s gaining weight along his curve and has plenty of nappies. It’s not about the time they’re on it’s how efficient they are on the boob so it could be she’s feeding really well now! :) I’d get her weighed and check nappy count x

I dealt with that for a while until my baby was almost 5 months. It would fluctuate, but on average she would feed like 5 min in total. I was concerned too. Now she’s eating way longer!! Is your key down heavy ? That was my issue.

I think definitely true they get faster and more efficient at feeding but also at 3 months they become fussier and more distracted feeding- someone put a really helpful article up about this on a previous post. Suggestions were feeding somewhere v quiet with dim lighting so zero distractions. Not practical all the time but that's definitely helped my baby. Also trying a different hold? Rubyball position works well when mines fussy sometimes- so they lie on a pillow around your side and then feed round from the side, with a hand under their head if that makes sense. Also if you want to talk your worrie through with somwleone I can't rate the NCT feeding line highly enough- they're amazing. Just Google it.

Definitely not pregnant 😅. Thanks everyone! You’ve helped put my mind at ease. I’ll keep my eye on her weight
