Yeah so her day sleep is in the 4-5 hour range with about 90 min wake windows. I follow huckleberry app. I know two of her naps are shorts but we do get two longer ones so just wanna know about those longer ones. This has been more recent with the wake ups.
I was following the huckleberry wake windows and I think they were too long (personally) bc i was having night wake ups and shorter naps than usual. So once I cut down my wake windows a bit things got better for us. I also put her down awake, no pacifier, no nursing to sleep or rocking. But also ultimately I think letting her fuss a bit at night before getting her has helped connect sleep cycles. At night I give 15 mins before intervening, and I think that has helped her put herself to sleep which she now also does for naps. Its a constantly changing thing bc they keep growing and needs keep changing lol
So oddly enough, she sleeps fine at night. 8-10 hours. She doesn’t put herself to sleep, we do but naps are are where the wakes up are happening. I guess I need to play around with letting her try to put herself back to sleep. How long do you wait before you consider the nap over? I’m so nervous to start the putting them down awake, because we put her to sleep for naps too. Any tips for starting out? Or just doing it haha.
Just do it 😅 i find it easier when you find the appropriate wake window bc then they're tired enough to sleep. I don't put her down crying or screaming. She's in her sleep sack, happy, calm and then i put her down. Give her 15 minutes. If she's not asleep then intervene. Maybe start 1 nap a day it might be too overwhelming to do them all at once! I usually let her nap until an hour and 30/45 in the morning and then cut them down as the day progresses. Her last nap is usually only 20-30 mins bc im moreso calculating total daytime sleep versus single naps. Dont stress it! This is my second kid so I'm a little more lax about it and it's just my personal feeling - if she cries for a few minutes is it really the end of the world? Especially if I know all her needs have been met (she's changed, fed, clean etc). I'd also recommend setting a timer for yourself! You got this!
Also give yourself some grace short naps are normal at this age no matter what you do sometimes. My first kid only napped 30 mins at this age no matter what I did lol
Thank you so so much! Maybe I’m thinking too much into this but do you consider the time you put her down the start of the nap, even if she’s awake for 15 mins? Haha.
Clearly, my first kid! Haha
Nope!! Nap starts once her eyes close. But awake time doesn't start until I get her out of bed. If she takes more than 15 minutes to fall asleep though, I make a note of it and the next day i extend her wake time bc it shouldn't be taking over 15 minutes to fall asleep
Okay makes sense! Thank you!!
My baby has been cat napping, like only 30 mins for his whole life. And it wasn’t until we bought him this transitional swaddle the other day, that he now sleeps 30-1.5 hour naps!!! It’s incredible omg. Because he spends most of his time when he’s awake wanting to suck on his hands, so this one has his arms up, but still covered so he can’t smack himself in the face and wake himself up lol. We have a snoo, so if we see him fussing, we’ll turn it to level 1 and it will rock him a little and we will see if it calms him down. But I’ve been trying to not do that as much. Depending on his cry, we let him fuss for a few mins and lately with his new swaddle, he goes back to sleep himself. Sometimes, we go in, give him his pacifier and put a hand on his chest and he calms down. But if his eyes are wide open and he’s crying then we go in and get him. If his eyes are wide open but he isn’t in distress, then we leave him be and sometimes he puts himself back to sleep.
Thank you! Yeah for naps we have sleep sack that’s like what you just mentioned.
Night she’s still swaddled
Unless baby is really crying or has taken a long enough nap, I do not intervene. I think night sleep is easier for them to connect. And short naps, while normal, can also be a result of having too much or too little wake up time. I started keeping track of our wake times and was able to get back to longer naps! I follow a fb group called respectful sleep training which has been super helpful. Here are the wake times for a 16 week old that they suggest- hope it helps! 4 months (slashes represent a nap) (1.25= an hour and 15 mins) 1.25/1.5/1.5/1.75/1.75 Total day sleep 4-4.5 hrs
