@Karima thanks so much good to know!
My nipples we’re like this and I was initially given thrush treatment but it didn’t really work. It turned out to not be thrush and I needed an antibiotic and steroid cream. Just mentioning this in case your baby doesn’t definitely have thrush.
@Claire thanks - did your baby have symptoms too? My little boy has a white film on his tongue
@Izzy no they didn’t but white film can sometimes just be milk. Of course go with what your doctor says but if it doesn’t clear up check again as my doctor was not very familiar with breast issues and my nipples were taking months to heal and so sore . I eventually went back to a female GP who said it was a bacterial infection and gave me a cream with a steroid and antibiotic and that cleared it. Good luck and hope you feel better soon x
weeks because it wasn’t actually thrush it was nipple damage and vasospasms from a tongue tie. and babys white tongue was also milk connected to the tongue tie. not saying its not thrush but definitely see a breastfeeding specialist. assuming you have been prescribed this from a GP any issue i ever had with breastfeeding a GP would tell me its thrush and it wasnt. what is the pain like and check to see if your nipple is white, lipstick shaped or flat when baby unlatches. check for these signs of a poor latch etc. some things i learnt though trying to treat thrush is the tablets (for you) are so much better to get rid of it. i think they are called fluconazole. if thrush goes further than the nipple the cream wont quite reach it. the times you breastfeed where you dont apply the cream for thrush use coconut oil. the kokoso one is great. it has antifungal properties so stops you from passing it back and fourth with baby. also airing out your nipples after feeds so they can dry helps (1)
but for me this is how i knew it was vasospasms not thrush because it made it worse 😅 also had a similar situation to Claire where i had a clogged duct and the pain went into my nipple and a doctor prescribed me things for thrush but it was only in one side so couldnt possibly be thrush but it cleared up without any ABX luckily as they wouldn’t listen to me (2)
Hi Izzy, I’ve been through the same situation.. initially we had a treatment for 7 days, it cleared up for the baby but not completely so we had to extend the treatment for another 7 days and it was completely gone by the end, same for my breast. I did not have pain though. I hope you’ll feel better soon, baby and you!
