Burping baby

First time mum to be - Odd question, but what are your thoughts on this/whats the recommendation? I always thought burping a baby was a normal thing to do, but I recently felt a bit intimidated when talking to a friend about her baby. I noticed she doesn’t burp her baby but just keeps them upright after feeding. She mentioned something about aspiration, which made me feel clueless for not knowing that burping might not be necessary.

Do what you feel your baby needs, I always always always burped my first baby and she’s now 20 months and I still do it for my own peace of mind that she hasn’t got a tummy ache or any trapped wind! Lots of people will tell you their way but do what you think works for you and your little one x

We always burped our first as he suffered with reflux so it helped him with trapped wind etc but eventually he got to a point where he'd burp himself as soon as you sat him upright

We were told BF babies don't need winding, then had a week from hell the first week our son was born with trapped wind. I will never listen to that advice again and will be winding baby number 2, regardless of whether we end up BF or bottle

I think it must depend on the baby tbh. I spent forever trying to burp mine and she rarely ever did. In the end I gave up because it was too stressful for us both and I was preventing her from sleeping because I was adamant I had to get a burp. This time round I’ll try to burp him for sure but hopefully I’ll recognise if he also isn’t a gassy baby so there’ll be a little less stress all round 🤞🏼 so I’d just see how baby is once they’re here and what works for them xx
