Advice

So my LO has been diagnosed with reflux and is on omeprazole and has been for some time however we are still having issues with feeding she’s very fussy like she wants it but it’s to uncomfortable for her to drink, I’ve changed her milk from cow and gate to cow and gate comfort colic and constipation as she suffers with constipation and is always pushing and straining herself and when she poos it’s an explosion, is the colour and texture normal ? I’m thinking she has an allergy but doctors won’t test and keep saying it’s her reflux. She’s dropped from having 6oz every 3/4 to 4oz every 3/5

I agree I also think allergy probably cmpa my little boy was the exact same! Xxx

Doesn’t look or sound right get a doctors appointment tomorrow xx

I’m going phone doctors tomorrow again, feel like it’s an endless battle, she just wants to sleep and not feeding great and when I do it’s taking hours to get her milk down her xx

Looks like an allergy poo

@Jodie 100% an allergy! Xxx

@Jasmine why is nobody listening to me when I say its an allergy 😢 all because it hasn’t got blood in her stool, I might have to lie to get her tested because I just can’t continue with a baby so unhappy! X

Take her to hospital sorry not sure where your from (a&e or the emergency room) show the rashes and poos they will refer you to get her tested hopefully that's how I done it cos the normal doctors weren't listening to me either. I know it's so frustrating and stressful but your doing all your can and your doing amazing! In the meantime could you maybes cut out dairy from her diet and see if it helps ? xxx

@Jodie the GP can prescribe the milk for cmpa. They told me they don't test. They just do a trial of the milk and if it works then in x amount of time you try the old milk again to see if they can handle it. Said they would refer me to paediatrics. I also was told its reflux so had to try gaviscon. Then tried comfort milk. That green poo photo I could have taken myself, his are the exact same and he spends days working on them. Disrupts his sleep and he cries trying to do them. He's super fussy when burping and people keep telling me it's just because I've take his food away but seems so much more.

I’ve been to doctors twice who sent us to A&E both times once when she was a week old and they said it was colic and reflux and gave us nothing and then again when she was 3 weeks old and we tried a different hospital and they prescribed us omperazole and to start with we was happy as it seem to take the edge however still getting the symptoms but we just thought we needed the medication to work, we took her back to doctors on and they up her dosage again seem to take the edge off but still not 100% and then on her 8 week review they have up it again so she’s on 10ml/10mg of omeprazole now but still the same, all they keep doing is upping her dosage, I had a follow up with paediatrics on 10th Jan and they was happy as I said it had made a difference and that was that they discharged me i might try contacting them again and raise my concerns if not I might go to walk in centre, I’m even contemplating paying private at this point, she’s 10 weeks on Thursday and still no further really x

Have you spoken to your health visitor? My daughter is the exact same, but she was on aptamil. I spoke to the GP about her symptoms I.e slow weight gain, green poo, smelly gas, pain and other stuff. They said it’s all normal, but the health visitor said it’s not. So she told me to request aptamil pepti 1 formula, and she added notes for the GP to see. Maybe worth doing this?

@Kerri yes I’ve spoken to her and she just says challenge it with GP which I have and continuing to do, strange you say that her poo really smells and sometimes she trumps and I think she has pooed but she hasn’t. X

@Jodie honestly her gas was so so bad, it’s ridiculous that the GP isn’t listening. We’ve even been referred to a dietitian by my health visitor, but my little one keeps falling off the centile measurements too. I really hope they listen to you!x

@Kerri my little girl was a good weight when born and she continues to gain weight but that’s because we are so encouraging her to have her milk because I don’t want her to loose weight so that’s a another reason they aren’t to worried x

@Kerri did your baby loose weight? X

@Jodie when she was born she dropped from 9lbs to 7lbs 8oz, and it’s took her a while to get back to her birth weight. She then got to 11lbs but has dropped again, so we’re still having weekly weigh ins x

Poo colour is normal for C&G comfort. My girl was on it for months and every poo was green. It makes them really gassy too and the smell 😮‍💨

@Rebecca that’s not normal though

@Rebecca oh really, she’s been on normal cow and gate and kendamil goats and now comfort and still having symptoms of an allergy like the effort she goes to get it out it’ must be really draining for her xx

Green poo is still a normal colour for young babies. The paediatrician told me as long as it’s not white, red or black it’s fine and can regularly change consistency. But if they are in discomfort that’s different. I spoke with my GP about CMPA concerns and was told not to worry, it’s unlikely and they can’t test for it anyway. Took my LG to children’s urgent care and one look at her they said they suspected an allergy and within 24 hours the GP had to prescribe specialist formula as well as gaviscon infant and she was referred to a paediatrician for it. She’s so much more settled now. Her poos do change from watery to pastey and from green to yellow everyday but she is content. It’s worth trying A&E again and pushing for a suspected CMPA assessment
