Stomach noises with omeprazole

I’ve experienced this with my daughters 4mg daily. But her stomach also does this when it’s empty and milk is flowing into it? so i’m not sure x

This happened to my first son for a wee while! I actually stopped it because I was worried it was hurting his tummy but then I started again because he really needed it. I can’t remember when it stopped but I don’t think it lasted long as he was on it for a few months and it definitely didn’t happen when he was bigger x

@Kirsty thanks, unfortunately his has been doing it since he started 3 nearly 4 months ago. The doctor didn’t seem to believe it would happen instantly, but it does 🥲

Yeah I remember saying the same thing to a dr and they had no idea what I was talking about either! It’s happened to my 9 week old just once or twice and he’s been on it 3 weeks. How long did it take to kick in for your baby? We increased the dose a week ago, noticed a change for around 3 days and now he’s struggling again 😔 x

@Kirsty it started to work after about 2/3 weeks for us. He has silent reflux so it helped his burping a lot. I do feel like it gives him a lot of gas though. I’m unsure if that’s what it’s supposed to do? He burps so so much, I’m debating going back to the doctors because I’m really unsure if it’s normal that his stomach is still making the noises it does and the amount of gas he has. They told me to try and ween him off it but that went down like a led balloon. We went from 6mg to 5 and he instantly started getting reflux again and arching his back so I just put him straight back onto 6 and we’re now on 7. On the odd occasion he is sick, it’s so thick but he’s also having carobel in his bottles to help with the reflux also. He also used to be on 6oz bottles before we started the medicine and he’s still now, 4 month later on 6oz. He’s thriving and gaining weight but we cannot get him to take anymore milk as he will just be sick. It’s a confusing one 🙃

It’s funny you say that because I’ve just tried my baby on carobel for the 2nd time and he has horrendous gas/stomach pains again after just a day of it so could it be that? I’ve ordered magic mix to try instead 🤞 I have heard omeprazole can cause bad wind etc though. My older son always only had around 4oz it drove me mad but he had no problem gaining weight or anything like that, he absolutely loves his food and has always ate so much since I weaned him so try not to worry about that x

@Kirsty we ended up in hospital last night due to other reasons but today when we’ve spoken with multiple professionals they’ve advised for us to try weaning him off omeprazole and onto gaviscon. Obviously the omeprazole is causing him to have stomach pains so it’s causing issues there but also apparently omeprazole should be a kind of last resort for babies due to the complications it can cause further down the line. He’s 5 months almost and we’ve been told to just try him with a little bit of baby rice and smooth pouches of organic rices/fruits etc to try and thicken what’s in his stomach to help with the reflux. So when he’s feeling better and himself we’re going to start. I’m not going to properly introduce food fully until he is 6 months but we’re going to give say 2/3 spoonfuls a day to start off, ahhh the joys 🤣 I wish there was one rule book to go off and that be it x
