Mums who also have a toddler

Tips and tricks to get through days where baby can't be put down? My 5 month old is going through a suuuuper fussy phase as he has his brothers cold and is also teething. Up all night to. I'm with them both solo for 3 days per week, and they have been hell recently. Even in sling, the baby is crying, and I just can't focus on my older child (he's 27 months). I got through yesterday by making sure all baby's naps were in cot and not overlapping with toddler naps so I got some 121 time with them both, but I literally didn't sit down for a single second all day... I just want to hear how some others in the same situation muddle through those days!

I can relate! It’s hard isn’t it! I put baby in the sling and we scoot/ride around the park. Then play when baby is awake. Or on really hard days life out a movie on, sat on the sofa and contact napped with a jumper over babies ears.

Oh no!- poor you!! Some days are just tough! I put my two in the pram and go for a walk. Usually around my 22 month old’s nap time and sometimes they both fall asleep and stay asleep when we get home. So I can just sit with a cup of tea and have like 20 minutes peace. If they both don’t fall asleep, I feel better for the fresh air and walk any way. Hope it gets better for you soon!

Same here.. the only way I do it is by letting my little one sleep in the baby carrier/sling so that I can spend time with my 2 year old

I’m in the exact same boat! Have a 24m old and a teething & unwell 5 month ill who is full of cold. No advice really - just solidarity! I try my best to distract the baby where I can with new toys (some of his brothers that I pull out when we need something fresh) and just have to accept there there is going to be some whinging/crying but you can only do what you can do! Xx

Also agree with Lizzie! Fresh air definitely helps if you’re able, and if I get really desperate I’ll chuck them both in the car and the baby usually sleeps! X

Thanks everyone, we do go out a lot and my baby has just started forward facing in sling so is pretty entertained. The weather is just so cold though so it can only be an hour or so at a time. Hoping baby cheers up soon, as when he's in a good mood it's fine really!x
