Yeah, kids need to learn to play independently it's how they develop imagination. As long as they're safe it's totally fine.
As Melissa said go put the kettle on and drink a warm cuppa for a change lol
@Melissa @Natalia That's so reassuring, thanks! I love watching him play and chatter independently, because he never does it if I'm anywhere near, but I feel awful closing the door on him! Is that weird? I know he's safe because his room is clear of anything dangerous, and I'm watching him on the monitor with sound on constantly anyway, but somehow I feel like a bad mum for doing it!
I have whole 30-45min showers, bathroom and her bedroom door open so she can check on me if she needs to and she sits playing/reading in her room. When she hears the shower turn off she comes running to help me get my towel 🥰
@Helen That sounds amazing! I don't think my little one would sit and play if he had the option of coming into the bathroom with me though. The only reason I close his bedroom door is because I don't have a stair gate at the top, and I worry he'll try to escape/fall downstairs otherwise.
It is amazing. We do have a stair gate yeah. It started with her playing in the bathroom while I showered, then there were a couple occasions where we were able to leave her in her room for 5-10mins at a time, and then we gave her the option during shower to leave the bathroom and been doing it this way for a couple months now
@Helen I'm motivated to get a stair gate put up and try to do the same now!
I often leave her playing in the living room whilst I’m int he kitchen, gonna toilet, grabbing washing cause if not when am I supposed to even 💩🤣🫣 everything’s just toddler proofed
Yeah we do this but mainly so we can just lie in bed for an extra 10-15 mins! Basically when she wakes up in her room, I’ll bring her into our bed and breastfeed her. Then she has a couple of cuddles and says good morning, then she hops off the bed and goes to her room to play- she’s in and out of her room and our room pottering about, so it gives us a chance to wake up a bit! We have a stair gate and her room is safe so we feel fine with her moving around.
I do this a lot, it helps LO to get used to playing independently and gives us a minute to breathe 😂😂 you're watching on the monitor, so if anything was up, you could be right there!! I'd say you can go chill for a bit longer, give yourself some me time while he enjoys playing
