Breastfeeding and nursery

Hi all, My 11month old will be starting nursery 2days a week just after her first birthday. I feed responsively and she's still wanting milk a fair amount, despite also being a good eater. When she goes to nursery I'd like to continue breastfeeding (not sure for how much longer but we both aren't ready to stop yet). I'm wondering how others managed when their little ones started nursery - did you pump for them to have some at nursery or just feed in the morning and evenings? Will my supply adjust? Dry out? I feel so confused about this next step.

I pumped twice a day at work and he initially had two bottles then it quickly went to one a day. He’s 15 months now and has cows milk at nursery as I couldn’t pump enough so we transitioned him beginning of this month. I nurse morning and night and during the day if he wants it when I’m with him. I’m stressed out soo much about this when my son went to nursery but it all works out in the end.

I went back to work at 10.5 months with my first and I also had this worry. By the time I went back he ended up just breastfeeding 3 times a day (first thing, straight after work and bedtime) as he was doing so well with solids having 3 meals a day. I also tried to put breastmilk in his food where possible (weetabix, scrambled egg, overnight oats etc). My body responded quickly to this new routine and I never leaked at work or anything which was another worry. I started the routine two weeks before my return x

@Hayley thanks for your reply. Yes I am worried about being able to keep up with pumping. Good to know it all worked out for you.

@Suzie thanks for replying. She's eating a fair amount but still asking for milk a lot. Maybe it's about distracting her or offering her food to try to reduce it!? I really don't know. I wish there was more advice on breastfeeding after a year and managing work. Really good to know about no leaking at work, I'm really worried about this and wasn't sure if I'd need to pump to avoid leaking!

My boy started at 11 months. I fed in the morning, as soon as I picked him up, before bed and once in the night. I sent pumped milk in with him the first couple of weeks but he didn’t want it. After a month I stopped the early evening feed and have been on mornings and night until 17 months and now it’s just before bed

@Sophie thanks for your reply. That's so helpful to know how you managed it. I think I'll send her in with milk to start and see how it goes 😊 I've such mixed feelings about cutting nursing sessions - on one hand I can see the freedom it brings but on the other I feel really sad about losing those moments of closeness!

I had a freezer stash which I just gave 2 to 3 packets to nursery and my son would have 2 at least. Now the freezer stash is getting low, this past 2 weeks he's not been having milk at nursery, just in the mornings. I still pump when I can at work and that goes into the freezer and he feeds directly from me when we're together. My supply adjusted once I was back at work but I'm not able to pump as much. I find comfort in knowing he gets what he needs so I don't pressure myself

My boy started nursery at 10 months he had milk to go in initially but I couldn’t pump enough so after month stopped. He doesn’t have any milk at nursery, feeds on demand when home. He is almost 14 months and still a proper boob monster!

My daughter started nursery at 8 months, was breastfeeding a lot and wouldn’t take a bottle or milk from a cup. She started eating a lot more solids, took a while to get her to drink water as she was still refusing milk. She’d nurse straight after nursery and in the morning (and during the night 😅). I pumped at first but my supply gradually adjusted and I found after a couple of months I didn’t need to anymore. Still breastfeeding now at nearly 17 months 🙂
